Arrow Contagion (2011) - Steven Soderbergh

I'm quite a fan of Steven Soderbergh's films: Solaris, Ocean's Eleven, Ocean's Thirteen, Traffic, Erin Brockovich, The Limey, Out of Sight... I've still not seen Che: Part One or Two but they look quite good.

Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law (dodgy accent), Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet.

"Contagion" follows the rapid progress of a lethal airborne virus that kills within days. As the fast-moving epidemic grows, the worldwide medical community races to find a cure and control the panic that spreads faster than the virus itself. At the same time, ordinary people struggle to survive in a society coming apart.

Soderbergh has this amazing talent of taking the most interesting subject matter
and making incredibly dull movies (Solaris, the Ocean films etc..)

Due for release tomorrow. Interesting but very trodden path for a plot. I personally am not a fan of "Soddy"'s directing style but I like Matt Damon and Marion Coutillard and so will see it.

Quite enjoyed this. While it doesn't do anything particularly new to the virus outbreak genre, it does it relatively well - and without the histrionics or melodrama usually associated with such fare.

I found its reflective and downplayed approach refreshing, and the cast - mostly make up free and dowdy - perform admirably. There's not much story wise though; it's incredibly slight on that front.

The weakest link for me was Jude Law. I don't like him at the best of times, but I found his overplayed Aussie (not sure about that accent either) conspiracy theorist irritating, and edging on spoofy, considering the otherwise sombre tone of the film.

Not bad, but not one I'd watch again.

Saw this last night, thought it was very good (if depressing). Jude Law (and his teeth) was definitely the weakest part of the film.

Saw this at the weekend and was expecting something major virus wise rather than what we got. Seemed in places to have whole areas wiped out, mass chaos etc yet in the grand scheme of things, not that many died.
At least power etc wasn't affected at any point.

Prefered that film set in South America? where everyone went blind. Much more gloomy.

Blindness. A horribly grim film. Well made but far from entertaining.

Yeah entertainment from this sort of this is hard to get, its bloody awful stuff all round. Hardly a happy moment in all of Contagion, still it did its job, strangely made as well with that funky music.
