Just discovered 4OD (Channel 4 on demand) Loads of free programs.

All I have to say is wow! Blows iPlayer out of the water. Our Sky+ of the last two My Name is Earls screwed up so I went to Channel 4's site and found the 7 day catch up. Which you can watch through the website. Realising I had missed the two episodes prior to the ones I had missed, I downloaded the 4OD app and found the complete series. Then I found loads of programmes. Peep Show series 1 - 5 (I was watching the boxset of 1-4 so I didn't watch the series when it was shown).

The Comic Strip presents... are all on there as well as loads of others. I realise that some of you will have already have been aware of this, but like me, I'm sure that there are people who had no idea there was this much free. I thought I would have to at least pay per episode.

Edit: Looks like current seasons of US shows are free like Desperete Housewives Season 4 (but not 1-3, those are 99p a episode), but all C4 produced stuff is free, like all the Father Teds, Spaced, Derren Brown.

Downloading seems slow if you download to play back later, but most seem to have streaming.

It's pretty good, just a shame ITV and C5 aren't on board as well.
I've noticed that sometimes episodes are missing when they list a series, which is annoying.

I've never managed to get the 40D main piece of software to work on any of my machines for some reason. The online stuff is good, but noway is it better than iplayer and certainly not better than iplayer beta (bigger, radio etc.)

Also, ITV are on board with their 30 day catchup service - http://www.itv.com/CatchUp/default.html

Does iPlayer have the back catalogue that 4OD has? Through the main app the selection goes way back. Just watched the first episode of Sean's show from 1991, it's a bit crap now, but loved it when I was 13.

Shame there is nothing worth catching up with on ITV.

Oops sorry, I assumed the op was talking about watching 4OD through his TV, it seems he meant watching via the interwebs.

The 4oD and iPlayer applications (not the webiste) share the same basic code, kontiki. It's an absolute bandwidth whore and is a bitch to shut down properly. Be very wary if you are on a limited bandwidth package as kontiki will consume as much as you can feed it.

Sure it's been covered elsewhere, but just in case, 4OD is now working on Macs - hurrah!

I won't install 4OD for this reason... but iplayer has now dumped the kontiki service (kservice.exe) and is now a multi-platform adobe air app. So they are far ahead of 4OD. It doesn't upload any more, as far as I can tell, and you can just close the player completely by clicking 'exit'. The air app might well still be in the beta section. If you were holding out on installing it like I was.. you are good to go now

If you have Tiscali it's a channel on there. Probably true of Virgin, BT and the other TV internet packages with VOD stuff. Tiscali has HBO and WB on demand channels too as well as their own one and the stuff from the last 7 days for BBC.
