Recordable DVD media compatibility with Sony S325 (or 525/725)

Note: This thread has nothing to do with copying DVDs.

I'm trying to burn a disc to play on my Sony 325 stand alone player, and presently I just have a batch of HP DVD+RW discs. I've tried a test one burning on my Acer Laptop's burner and the disc works fine on the laptop drive and my portable DVD player, but on the Sony it either comes up with 'No Disc' or 'C:13:00'.

Has anyone had success with recordable DVD media on the 325, or possibly the 525 which I think has the same drive internally, and maybe the 725 which was the top of that range and might be similar?

Should I be trying 'R' media instead of 'RW' and is it better with '+' or '-' and what brands are recommended?

Also does it make a difference what software you burn with. I've tried Nero 6 and also the software that came with the laptop (NTI DVD Maker).

Yeah I've just read those. I was wondering if anyone here had any tips beyond what's on that site (I find the comments on there tend to be conflicting where one person says everything works fine and another says they can't get anything to work and yet the use the same media). Either that or perhaps I'm doing something wrong and is Nero an okay tool to burn them with?

P.S. Just to be clear, it's the old S325 model, not the NS325.
