Double Play Editions

Well, it had to happen.

Last night I watched Transformers: Dark of the Moon but I accidentally watched the DVD

Thought it looked a bit soft in places

I had a terrible rant about Assassination of Jesse James looking crap on bluray on here once only to realise, months later, Blockbusters had sold me the DVD version.

Several big companies are doing the "Dual play" bit for older films. Criterion, MoC, Arrow etc.

I'm all for double play editions. Especially Zone A locked stuff (************!) but I knew one day I'd end up watching a bloody DVD

I told the Mrs who then fired back "So. is there any need for you to buy an Oppo 103D?"

Ha! I may be a mouse when it comes to certain things with the missus but she has no say whatever when it comes to my Home Cinema system. She has to even ask me first before watching anything in the 'den'.

Sometimes even the DVDs themselves don't help. The DVD that comes with Shout!'s Blu-ray of Saturn 3 (lovely transfer BTW, I'll get a review up on TDF tomorrow) has DTS-HD Master Audio sound options, according to the menu. It's actually DD5.1, but they've simply copied the menu options across from the Blu.

You bet. Why waste ammo on battles you can't win - or don't care to win? Furthermore, deliberately throwing in the towel on some occasions gives you additional leverage when you need it at other times.
