Smile Veronica Mars .... Cancelled!!... *DEAD!*... Reborn with a MOVIE!

From E!'s Kristin Blog.......

The day we’ve all dreaded has come, tubers.

With actual tears in my eyes, I must tell you that I’ve heard from several solid sources that the CW has decided not to bring Veronica Mars back for a fourth season.

Though official word has not yet come down from the network, I did hear from creator Rob Thomas earlier this week, who told me things weren’t looking good: “I’ve never been less certain of our fate. I’m afraid I’ve gone from cautiously optimistic to something less than that.”

More on this later. I’m just too distraught to write more right now.

Damn! .... Just when I was getting excited at the recent news that season four was maybe going to leap a few years into the future & feature Veronica's first year of FBI training at Quantico.

another good show canceled but had the feeling the 3rd series was going to be the last because the ratings dropped a bit iirc

Does this mean they are even going to air the final episodes or not?

Bah. Season three was the weakest, but it smacked of network interference: the lack of a single overall mystery, the introduction of Piz and Parker and the under-use of Wallace, Mac and Weevil. (I don't know if the CW mandated the character changes, but they felt a lot like appeals to demographics.) I'm not surprised it's not faring well, and I like to think it would have done better sticking to its guns.

Fingers crossed that something will be pulled out of the bag.

Agree with smst, season three has been weaker than 1&2 (but still stronger than a lot of shows on TV).

Damn!

Just racing through this at the moment and was hoping to catch up before it re-starts in April.

It's a great show.

it's cancellation is now less than certain - latest is that Rob thomas is pitching a "new" show set a few years on where Veronica is an intern at the FBI. Sounds pretty interesting....

Well that's put a real downer on my day. I know the show's been walking a tightrope for a while now, but I still foolishly believed it would be coming back. I wouldn't try to pretend it's the greatest show on TV, but I've really grown to love it. A real shame.

Count me in for Special Agent Mars, though.

Sadly, Moviehole appears to have confirmed the cancellation with Tina Majorino's reps.

Damn shame. It's not my favourite show on TV, but I do really get into it from time to time. Third series wasn't as good as previously, but I am enjoying it.

Well they could easily do the show without Tina, she was barely in this season.

Not completely over yet by the sounds of it anyway: http://www.eonline.com/gossip/kristi...1-798de6671716

Fingers-crossed the Veronica:Trainee FBI Babe show gets the greenlight as that has the potential to be even better.

I haven't seen any of Season 3 yet but 1 & 2 were awesome and that potential idea for season 4 sounds brilliant! Why cancel a series that still has so much potential and such a star performance in the central role?

Ratings. Apparently the Pussycat Dolls reality show that's on now is getting very good ratings in the same time slot.

Veronica's move to college has not been as entertaining as I'd hoped and if it's not coming back in it's current format then I hope that Veronica Mars :FBI gets the green light.

On the bright side, if the show is cancelled & with Kristen's poor choice of movies (Pulse) ... it cant be long before she graces the pages of Playboy.

Kristen has updated her intitial claim of cancellation
Quote:
Although this "cancellation" rumor ran rampant around all sectors of Hollywood today, it turns out the picture is more complex than a straight canceled-or-not-canceled scenario. At this hour, here's what I can tell you: I just heard from Veronica mastermind and showrunner Rob Thomas, who tells me, "If we're cancelled, I certainly don't know about it." Though Rob did not say anything further, inside sources at the CW have explained to me a more detailed version of the situation: According to network insiders, the CW has not officially canceled Veronica Mars. However, they are currently considering a different format for the fourth season. That format would leap four years into the future and focus on Veronica Mars as an FBI agent. The rest of the cast, aside from Kristen Bell, is yet to be determined. So bottom line: Veronica Mars could be: 1) spinning off into a new format, 2) returning in her college years or 3) getting canceled.

And let me just say, number 3 could be a very real possibility, so it is time to rally the troops before it's too late".
I wished that they'd done the time jump at the end of S2. Avoiding the collage years alltogether, a lesson that the OTH creator has taken on board cos his plans for S5 involve skipping collage alltogether and having his main characters return home after collage. VM being cancelled would suggest that OTH is going to be renewed.

Lets just skip over the joke that is the FBI accepting a criminal who they are investigating as an accessory to a kidnapping into their ranks. Or that an individulist like V could ever survive in the beaurocratic (sp) world of the FBI

BTW I am resigned to this being the last season given the shows low ratings.
