Talking The Dresden Files - Jim Butcher

Hi all

I'm up to the 2nd to last one (so far) in The Dresden Files and I am absolutely loving the series. Been listening to the audio books read by James Marsters (Spike from Buffy!) and although he started off slow in the first book, he is absolutely great now.

Has anyone else read/listened to the series and what are your thoughts on it?

The way its written is what makes me like the series so much - I haven't not enjoyed any of them so far.

I've read all but the very last one, the only thing I didn't like as the books went along was that Bob started to gradually appear less in each book.

Bob is a legend, deserves his own book

Love these, things really start to pick up with book 3.

The audio books jump from book 4 iirc to book 9. I think the plan is to back fill the missing books as time allows. Book 12 is out in April next year. Looking forward to it.

These are decent light pulp style reads. Shame the TV series turned out to be poo. I bet Jim Butcher looks at True Blood and thinks of what might have been.

Yeah I think the other audio books are out in October so that will be nice to listen to them!

And yep, the things they could have done with the TV series could have been great - probably needed a massive budget though and some of it could be a bit risque

Well, time to bump this. Just about half way through Changes now, few shocking things happening too...not sure where the next book will pick up but a very enjoyable read so far. Fast paced and the action just keeps coming!

Changes is...full of them.

Without resorting to spoilers, it's fair to say nothing is going to be the same again after this one.

Read the short story collection "Short Jobs", most of them have been in other collections but the most interesting one was "Aftermath" which deals with Murphy's perspective on the events immediately following "Changes"

Definitely worth a read, if you already have the earlier stories it's still worth buying just for "Aftermath".

Harry has been in a number of collections by other people but I think this is the only one he has done himself.

Really enjoyed it. Nice and twisty-turny, and I where I'd guessed who actually
I hadn't guessed who organized it
