Can't say I've seen all of them, but I've seen enough of them. Last 'new' one to me was Island of Death - one of the worst films I've seen. I don't mean worst as in most depraved, I mean worst as in most tedious.

#9 The Burning (US MGM SE DVD uncut)
Felt a little wrong watching this one as it's basically a well-made, nicely-shot, proper US slasher flick. One of the good one's that wasn't sullied by pointless sequels and remakes (yet). Seen it a good few times now and looks like I'm still not bored with it as I enjoyed it just as much as last time. It's one of the few flicks in this genre that feature a cast which I'm actually sad to see get killed (apart from camp counsellor Todd who enjoys recounting campfire stories based on the bloke he helped kill, he doesn't get what he deserves really). Oh and I do always try and spot Holly Hunter but she might as well not be in the damn flick!

Next up........Cannibal Apocalypse!

IoD is one of the more watchable ones IMO.

It's too long for starters (~2 hours) and no decent gore. If it was <90 mins, it might have been a half decent unintentionally funny film. I got fed up with it and fast-forwarded as it neared the end to see if I was going to miss a decent climax or anything. I didn't. Waste of Ł4.

Cannibal Holocaust remains, to this day, to be the most disturbing film I have ever seen, and yes you can guess why.

Holocaust is still disturbing because its so well made. Properly acted, great unshowy fx. Even shorn of the animal cruelty it freaks people out.

Yep have to agree....and no matter what gets written and said...I still for the life of me do not beleive they did not impale a body...it's so realistic !Apparently lots been written about this effect...are there any photos showing how it was done ??

The reason I ask is that IMDB contradicts wikipedia...one states the actress attended the trial, then another says the court were shown photos of the actress after the scene was filmed....hmmmm

I've only seen 20 of the 72, but have little interest in watching the rest, although The Burning is one I need to check out.

Of those I've seen, Inferno is the best, a near masterpiece and arguably Argento's best film. Cannibal Holocaust, Night Train Murders, Tenebrae, Let Sleeping Corpses Lie, The Beyond and The Driller Killer are all very good. The latter is seriously misunderstood, principally as a result of THAT video sleeve, and is nearer Repulsion (which it references with the rabbit) than the horror film it is widely regarded as.

Then there's The Last House On The Left, Twitch Of The Death Nerve, Dead and Buried, I Spit On Your Grave, Fight For Your Life and Zombi 2, all of which are decent in their own way. Never been a fan of The Evil Dead, but would lump it in with these films as being superior to the rest of the list.

Mountain Of The Cannibal God and The Toolbox Murders have their moments, but are hardly great films, although the latter is so sleazy it has to be seen to be believed.

Then there's the dreck (!) - Cannibal Ferox and The House On The Edge Of The Park both irritated the hell out of me for being so inept and deliberately offensive. Hell Of The Living Dead and Contamination were crap too.

#10 Cannibal Apocalypse (US Image SE DVD uncut)
Great fun with quite possibly the stupidest plot I've yet seen in a video nasty. Contagious cannibalism, one bite and well....you kinda fancy some human meat. Doesn't turn you rabid or anything, you just fancy eating people. Frankly if the Nam vets had been a bit smarter they wouldn't have had any problems with the law at all. Like old John Saxon, he just bites the neighbour's jailbait daughter

Nice DVD as well, a 50 minute making of and some other goodies

Up next.........Cannibal Ferox! (I think)

Dont expect impovement. I prefer Apocalypse to Ferox tho.

Holocaust is ok, I wouldnt say it was this mythical 'masterpiece' everyone else says it is. Its still a exploitation movie after all.

Absolutely love Manchester morgue, I think its one the best zombie films out there and way ahead of its time. Have watched this many times, but still wanting the BD with the extras.

Zombie creeping flesh is unbelievably bad.

I've seen Ferox maybe once before, I don't remember it all that well. Holocaust I've seen a number of times so just for a change I'll be trying Deodato's new "director's edit" Shameless DVD.

I've never understood the high reputation of Cannibal Holocaust. Granted I've only seen it once but it seemed to be just a badly acted slice of over-the-top cynicism with a syrupy score that laid on the "irony" with a shovel.

I gotta kinda agree with Lou about Cannibal Holocaust. Me and 2 of my friends geared ourselves up to watch it together (this was about 18 or 19 years ago) and I don't think many, if any, films have come as close as to how much we were shocked by what we were watching. Not just shock for shock value's sake, but an immensely powerful film too, really well acted and directed.

I've come close to that same experience a few times (Cannibal, A Serbian Film and Libido spring to mind) but I don't think it's ever been surpassed.

It's too cheap and easy to shock (Subconscious Cruelty, August Underground's Mordum and Dear God, No! I'm talking to you) just to get a reaction from your audience. Shock scenes in those 2 films I just mentioned actually just **** me off and make me want to punch the director. Hard.

#11 Cannibal Ferox (Sazuma Ultrabit DVD uncut)
Nasty, grim and sleazy; so not all bad! I don't think I've ever seen such a good copy of this flick, last time I saw it must have been a scuzzy VHS. Surprised to find a few cheesy laughs to be had as well, mainly in the NY scenes; "Hey, bitch, where's your stud?" shouts one of the mobsters as he double slaps a poor broad.

The animal cruelty got fast-forwarded, I don't need to see that. Quite happy with the brain and cock eating though

Next up..........Cannibal Holocaust!

#12 Cannibal Holocaust (UK Shameless DVD Director's 2011 Edit; toned down animal cruelty)
Well I must have sat through this one at least 5 times now so the shock factor is well and truly gone which surprisingly leaves me watching a very well made and clever little horror flick. Manages to avoid the risible aspects of most of the titles on the video nasty list, not to mention the entire Spaghetti Cannibal genre, via grim realism and jet black satire. There's literally nothing to laugh about in this one - which is kind of a shame as I like a good cheesy laugh - if the Nasties were all as downright merciless as Holocaust there's no way I'd make it through the lot!

Excellent picture quality on the Shameless DVD, better than the US Grindhouse SE, and some very nice extras as well!

Next up.............The Cannibal Man! (I think)
