Ian McEwan - Solar

I usually love this guy's books regardless of the subject matter. I got into him via the early depraved ones but have followed him ever since as a respectable author. However, Solar, around 50 pages in, and I'm having the tits bored off me. Anyone read it? Is it worth continuing?

I liked it, but then I liked the central character and the terrible situations he gets into. I'd give it another 50 pages, but if you're not 'gripped' by then, you never will be. I think something pretty major happens in the first 100 pages that casts a hue over the rest of the book.

Cool. I'll stick with it for the time being. I think the problem is sometimes his books are almost too well researched and he can cram in too much detail of things you're not that interested in (in this case, physics).

Though, if you've gone past the bit where he's in the arctic at the start
and didnt enjoy that, i'd give up. I thought it comic genius, but its about my level. I dont remember the physics much, but I do remember that

Dont highlight that unless he's back from the arctic.

I've got the dvd of that. Bought well over 5 years ago, but I think I've only ever seen an hour of it (don't think it was anything to do with the quality). Need to give it another go sometime.

It's great. The blu is out this year, so refreshing memory.

Back to Solar, the more I think about it, the more I think I really enjoyed it. Definitely worth sticking with.

Picked this up again tonight and am suddenly enjoying it. The pace seems to have picked up. Just read Beard's first encounter with the bloke who's boning his wife (not really a spoiler).

Just read that bit. Sure raised a chuckle and I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next.
