Guillermo Del Toro - The Strain

Thought this book deserves a thread of it's own. One of my favourite directors (Pan's Labyrinth is a joy), I had no idea he was writing a novel until there was a Q&A with him on iTunes.

Anyway, the book is fantastic. Set in the present day, it revolves around a plane which lands at JFK airport. When the plane comes to a halt, all the passengers and crew are dead, but with no obvious signs of a struggle. Is it a virus, or something more sinister? (Note: it's something more sinister....)

1st part of a trilogy, and would make a really good film.

Highly recommended

i thought it was very weak and i was very dissapointed by it, didn't feel it had any new ideas and boy was it slow.

However it *may* pick up with the second book, now that everything is set up...

It started off life as a TV show. Del Torro wanted to do a horror 'The Wire'.

So perhaps it all comes good in the later books.

The opening part is good, until they find out what's going on, after which it seems to turn into an unremarkable retelling of stuff that's been done before.

Still, the ending did hint that things could get more interesting.
Kneel before Zod!
