So I want to buy a cheap record player..

Alloha,

I am looking to buy my first record player, mainly for the GeeF, she is an 80's chick so is very much vinyl'd up. Apparently they didn't have CDs in her days  Now I don't want anything fancy or expensive as the "better sound" won't be appreciated by her, it just needs to play records and sound alright.

Q1) I am looking at £50 max really and have seen the Bush MTT1 from Tesco online for £40, now this seems good but it is mini sized, i am assuming therefore that it will play all records but they will physically hang over the edges, is that right? Will this player suffice for my needs?

Q2) My Yamaha HTR5640 is without a Phono Input, whats the crack there and how do i fix it?

Cheers!

The Bush has a built in phono-preamp if you need it (which can be switched off if you don't) , so can just use any spare input on the Amp

12", or indeed 10" records do "hang over" the edge, so you have to leave a couple of inches or so gap on the left side of the turntable.

As for quality, well, it ain't no Linn Sondek but for £40 it's pretty good.

Wow I was in exactly the same situation with my GF, bought her a £50 Awia deck from Superfi.

As Andy says, the Bush is pretty much ideal for playing the odd record.

A Project Debut at 110-ish, plus a phono amp at 30, would be a big improvement if you're going to play a lot of vinyl, but then it's over 3 times the price.

Yeah I guess I do need a phono preamp then with me not having a phono input on the Yammy, so that's even better.

thank you kindly gents, your advise is much appreciated and you have secured Tesco and extra £40 of my hard earned moolah this Christmas.

Adam & The Ants here we come....
