Casablanca has excellent commentary from Roger Ebert, now I'm going to buy the R1 Citizen Kane just because Eberts commentary (oh, and it also has superior image quality to R2).

It's very expensive and the picture quality not as good as the R2, but the Criterion edition on The Lady Vanishes has an exemplary commentary from Bruce Eder - just the right mixture of anecdotes, history and analysis, all served up in a warm, witty style. Whether that's worth Ł17 or so is up for debate though...

Which release is this on? As an LoG fan, I'd like it. I had a look on Amazon, et al and couldn't really find any info.

The LoG commentary isn't on the individual release, but it's on the version contained in Anchor Bay's "Tigon Collection" - that's the one in the coffin shaped box.

Cheapest price at the moment seems to be here...

Tigon Collection

Thanks CrazyHorse, not sure if I really want to get a boxed set like that just for one commentary. I'll have to think on it.

As for commentaries, I'd agree with the Alien one, excellent stuff.

i thought the commentary on oceans 11 was quite good with (I think) brad pitt, matt damon and andy garcia just telling stories about the making of it...

also, i find that any of the kevin smith films usually have very funny commentary but then, i 'm a huge fan...

Finally got this... brilliant stuff, especially the running joke of 'you could have got me a leg' and the cakes stuff. Enjoyed the film too, as the LoG say, it looks quite bleak and stuff. Made me appreciate it a bit more.
