Another good ep, it's coming into its own here. Proper emotional stuff at the end of that one. The comedy continues to be on back burner, it's there but not screaming out.

In the next couple of days we'll know if this is the new Trek we have which at this point I'd be OK with.

Loved the third episode and they even went with a untrek like ending. If Discovery is poor we have a plan B, and if it's good then we have two good space based shows on air.

Yeah episode three had a serious plot line and some hilarious moments intertwined.

Nope. I tried to start watching this show but had to stop after fifteen minutes. I used to love Family Guy when it first started but after a few years I became tired of Seth's style of humour.

To me this was just a Star Trek TNG homage with an occasional bad joke thrown in.

On the plus side, the visual effects were great especially as I learnt the Orville wasn't CGI but filmed old school as a miniature effect.

Story was good - must have missed the laugh out loud moments.

Still trying to work out if this an homage to, or parody of, Star Trek

Isn't it a little like the Family Guy Star Wars stuff, you can give it a bit of a ribbing whilst still respecting and paying homage.

Agreed, the third episode was quite fantastic. An excellent moral debate with a strong focus on character development, plus it WAS pretty funny (the Monopoly conversation especially worked for me).

That was the moment I thought maybe McFarlane is out of his depth here. And the sudden realisation that is me, I do stuff like that in meetings.

Might have to watch the episode again. Whilst I remember the Monopoly scene I don't remember it being particularly funny.

Thumbs-down for ep.3 from me (and I enjoyed the first two).

Too preachy & uninteresting for me. I suspect I actually fell asleep in the middle so maybe I missed the good parts?

Just watched ep 3.

Interesting story with a good moral quandary.

I’m liking this so far but I still think it doesn’t need so much effort at the comedy.

The plotlines are OK - fairly reminiscent of TNG, though way more heavy-handed.

The humour is ill-judged.

The acting is awful.

Now that ST: Discovery has started, I don't think I'll have time for this as well. Only watched the first ep - t'was ok but I have to be choosy about what I devote time on.

Episode 4 was great. Definitely reminded me the days of grabbing next generation in video and spending an hour and half on the 2 episodes. Great cameo as well. Well actually 2

Episode 4 was superb, they have really nailed the TNG formula and added a bit of their own.

I have to admit it's improving.

But watching it is a very odd experience.

It's as if I'm sitting there watching episodes of 90's Trek that I missed on their original run.

I can't quite decide if that's a good or bad thing. It's comfortable and fun, but a little stale at the same time.
