The opener was mildly entertaining & did enough to keep me watching for a few more to see if the "story-of-the-week" element remains at a competent TNG level & the humour hopefully improving as the characters develop.

Not keen on the main Ship design, the rear is horrendous, almost Kim Kardashian levels of wrong!

Lots of people comparing it to Galaxy Quest, but I find that my mind keeps going back to a much more obscure point of reference: the old PC adventure game/TNG spoof Space Quest V! When it started I was expecting Captain Mercer's ship to be a garbage scow, before I remember I was getting mixed up.

Really liked it. Tone is good, effects good. Humour is actually stuff you wondered about when watching Trek, do they get to finish at 5, drinking on the bridge, real humans.

Went in expecting an utter stinker but was pleasantly surprised. Give it 4 or 5 episodes to set its tone and I reckon this could be pretty good.

Galaxy Quest TV show.

Which is also apparently coming.

I'll give it another couple of episodes but if it doesn't improve to my liking then I'll await Galaxy Quest. If it's half as good as the film it'll be 10x better than what I've seen of The Orville.

I would imagine it'd get pretty old pretty fast, possibly the same as this unless it can find it's own identity.

Enjoyed the first episode, not so much the second.

My main problem is Seth Macfarlane, he's a crap actor and when I watch it I feel like I'm watching Seth Macfarlane being himself rather than the character he's playing.

If he could have been a little less of an ego maniac for a second and cast the lead as somebody else I think this would be better.

I actually enjoyed the second one as much as the first. Would have been a classic ST-TNG episode.

Yep really enjoyed this love the dynamic between McFarlane and his ex wife. It's a bit ropy round the edges but I am sure it will find it's feet if given time.

to be fair, he's in holywood. "acting" there is being yourself, being yourself thinking sad thoughts, being yourself while yelling etc.

never seen a bruce willis movie where he wasn't playing bruce willis

I like the 2nd ep much more, very TNG'y, more subtitle humour.

Bortus has one muscular arse.

edit - Only just found out that Malloy is Steve Smith from American Dad

The marketing for this has been quite misleading. It comes across as a space-bound sitcom in the trailers (I was fully expecting the second episode to be half an hour after a double-length pilot), as opposed to the sci-fi drama it is.

Episode 2 was better than the first, but again, it's just Star Trek TNG with slightly better effects & a few more jokes (most of which fall flat).

As a fan of TNG, I'm happy to watch more of them, but if your 'homage' is going to be so close to the original, surely the credits should read 'Created by Gene Roddenberry. Ripped Off by Seth MacFarlane'?

I found episode 2 to be on par with the first in terms of quality, although the story itself (trapped in an alien zoo!) was much more in keeping with a classic Star Trek vibe. The jokes are not hilarious, but neither are they bad.

I see it got good ratings again this week, although it still had the advantage of following a live NFL game. Will be interesting to see how much it drops when it moves to it's regular Thursday-night slot, later this week.

It'll be better when it's on Thursday night. The bloody football ran late again and I forgot to set my dvr to record an extra 90 minutes afterwards. Just glad it was available on-demand already.

Second episode was on par with the first. Would have been better if it wasn't so rushed in the last third. It is crazy just how much it looks, feels & sounds like Trek. Even the opening credits are a rip-off of Voyager!

It is all a bit meh so far for me - though I was never a big TNG fan.

The sfx are average ( unless that is meant to be part of the joke ) and in 2 episodes I have laughed about 3 times.

Annoying cos I love Family Guy and Ted

I'm out.

It had potential, but for me, it's nowhere near good enough.

Watched the first episode this afternoon.

I don’t think it needs the toilet humour but I think it has its heart on the right place.

I think it may end up better than discovery which I think may be awful
