It might be coincidence, but perhaps only some of the decks made it over here for retail as the Orcs Nest website only has the exact same decks.

I hate you. I bought the regular fruit deck from the US for £16 the other week. It arrived on Saturday and then typically it appeared at Gameslore over the weekend for just £6.49. Now you've made me spend as much again for the pirate deck from eBay too. Naturally Gameslore will start stocking it now.

Haha... sorry!

The fact that you want two decks however indicates that i may not regret my purchase!

I was so tempted to go for the name of the wind ones, but i think the pirate art is by far the best

Or that I'm just incredibly stupid.

Pirates is great. Desmond is the name of the pirate on the 2 card (there are two 2s).

I do really like Barmaids as well though.

This is what I get for working right near a board-game shop... Just picked up Love Letter as played a few games of it last night and really enjoyed. Rounds seemed rather based on luck, but there was still some light strategy to it and whilst I think the depth of Coup is better, we laughed more playing this.

Also played Alhambra - it was the big box version but we skipped the expansions. Quite enjoyed this too, and despite looking intimidating at first it's actually quite simple to play. I lost dreadfully though, especially when one fatal move towards at the end basically took me out of the running. Don't think I'll buy, but would play again.

I finally got round to playing Love Letter, what a great little game! I've also picked up Coup which seems to have a similar style of play. Looking forward to playing that

Huh? What kind of advent calendar does he have? Sounds better the usual Dairy Milk, etc ones.

We have a load of small boxes that we stick lollies, kinder eggs and other small treats in. Every so often the whole family get a larger advent present - yesterday was a die and "The King" from King of Tokyo

Giga-zaur SMASH!

I played Downfall of Pompeii with my 5 yr old yesterday. The card deck set up is a bit fiddly but fine once you work out what it's trying to achieve. The game itself is very simple, first phase is to fill up various buildings in Pompeii with meeples by playing a card, then Vesuvius eventually erupts and you have to get them out but also burn the others players' alive with the lava flows, lobbing crisped people into the volcano as you go. It's great fun!

Have you also played KoT? Is there much more in it that means the two can coexist on a gaming shelf?

No never played that, I did some research when deciding which to get. The general consensus was that KoT is great and easier to play with non-gamers, but KoNY improves it on every level whilst still being accessible to most people. I like the added elements!

I have both and had the same concerns before I ordered KONY. If you don't have KOT then I'd say go straight to KONY. If you already own and love KOT, then KONY is still a no-brainer but it is still worth hanging on to the original in my opinion. It is nice to occasionally revert to the slightly more streamlined, more direct combat orientated KOT. As someone said to me on RLLMUK, it is like owning both Ticket To Ride and Ticket To Ride: Europe. Very similar but still nice to have both.
