Silicon Valley

Premiers tonight (6th April) on HBO I believe.

Looks really good!

Quote:
In the high-tech gold rush of modern Silicon Valley, the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success. A comedy partially inspired by Mike Judge's own experiences as a Silicon Valley engineer in the late 1980s.

Sky Atlantic aren't bothering to show this until July (!)... Nice three month wait there!

As to the episode itself, a really promising start, with some wonderful observations and jokes. I didn't really know what to expect with this, but I think it will be good based off the first episode!

I'll give this one a while to see if it holds up.

Re: Silicon Valley

This reminded me of Douglas Coupland‘s book ‘Microserfs‘.

Not bad at all. Shame the lead guy is so completely unlikeable though.

Despite some of it flying over my head, it still made me chuckle a lot. It's nice to finally see an accurate portrayal of Geek life in the 21st century rather than the silly, unrealistic (but still funny) Big Bang Theory...

Impressed with the level of industry in-jokes that would whoosh right over the head of anyone not involved.

Thought it awesome personally!

Although I do agree the lead guy is a tad annoying. Would have much preferred the guy from Party Down to be the lead instead.
Hopefully the first episode was more character-centric as it was his website that was found and the others get more screen time from now on...

Yep and probably what will get this show cancelled eventually.

Really enjoyed ep 2, some funny moments involving Big Head

Starting to warm to the lead guy too.

Episode 2: The level of techy in-jokes is a far too high. I'm sure about 80% of the gags have gone over my head.

Still hate the lead guy.

Needs more women in the show too.

I don't think this one's for me.

& I'm guessing the Peter Gregory character won't feature too much in future episodes. The actor who played him died in December.

You need the newest seasons of Big Bang Theory.
This sounds like it could match the early seasons of that show for nerdyness.

There's nerdy jokes about movies, games & tv, & there there's nerdy jokes about html & javascript.

The latter? For me: Whoosh!

The mass effect 3 thing in the last episode felt a little forced but other than that I'm really enjoying this. Can't believe the Peter Gregory guy has died! Although I did wonder why he looked so frail.. . I wonder how they'll get around it ... Recast or just have him vanish? I'd personally say he'd filmed all his s1 scenes as he didn't have that big a part really

Thought it was great. HBO usually commit to shows for at least a complete season, rather than the other networks which air two episodes and dump them.

Great 2nd episode.
Sad to hear Christopher Evan Welch died, only 48. Lung cancer.
