2nd ep every bit as good as the first. Great brooding atmosphere. Learnt a lot more about Rust's backstory and I loved the confrontation between the two leads after the obligatory HBO bewbs scene. I know HBO gets regularly criticized for adding nudity and sex scenes but this time I totally agreed - this felt totally unnecessary and felt out of place in this particular show.

...oh, and before I forget: the music in this show is all kinds of awesome. Fits the bleak landscapes perfectly.

Music chosen by the legendary T-Bone Burnett. Opening music is "Far From Any Road" by the wonderful Handsome Family

Sounds good, have to look out for it, bit sad though as I guess nothing came of the idea of having a Lincoln Lawyer TV series

Watched first two back to back, might be slow but it's so compelling, two leads are brilliant

Loving this too, beautifully shot and top class acting throughout. HBO really are the best aren't they?

Agree with what's been said: TV out of the very top drawer.

I'm with FlangeMonkey on this one. It was a "we're putting this in because we can" scene. They made it clear he was having an affair with her in episode one in a way which didn't feel forced at all.

I'll be looking for an apology from the prudes on here when it's revealed in a later episode that the killer likes to handcuff his victims & that "nawwtty" scene was actually relevant!

I think what they were really trying to show is that Harrelson's character doesn't get that kind of extreme "sexy time" at home, and his home life and sex/fantasy life are distinctly separate things to him, hence his slightly repressed lack of remorse over the affair (until Rust challenges him on it, of course).

I do get it to an extent, but the rest of the show is so beautifully shot with understatement that it really jarred for me with the full-on bewbs.

She was already smuggling peanuts to the max. before she even took off her shirt - I thought then that that already was a deliberate decision to titillate, then off it came and it was just too full on IMO.

They obviously cast someone like her on purpose since she's a distinctly different looking kind of woman to his wife (not to mention much younger), further cementing the character's distinction between sex/fantasy and home life. In keeping with the period (mid 90s) where her kind of look was everywhere in the media is a nice touch, though.

As much as I like a good bewb, I'd rather have more of that luscious bleak Louisiana scenery and keep things in context with the feel of the rest of the show...

Similarly, also notice how they didn't go overboard with the depiction of the body that's found in the first ep, and didn't dwell or glamourise over autopsy scenes or repeated looks at the crime scene photos - it all could have been WAY more graphic, but I felt they deliberately kept it understated with just enough dark, creepy imagery to keep things realistic to add to the brooding atmosphere which makes the show so special.

I like this a lot - shows like Hannibal that do the complete opposite to the above have their place which is also great, mind you especially since it tends to go utterly balls out pulling absolutely no punches, but what makes this unique is how different it feels with more subtlety which is a breath of fresh air amongst the current crop of crime procedurals.

I thought it was more "because we're on HBO and we have to" rather than because they can

Could this turn out to be one of the finest, if not the finest, TV show ever?

I can't remember watching any TV show that started so strongly.
