Is it open-matte or cropped? Its OAR is 2.35:1.

It was overlooked at awards time because the Academy (in fact both of them) is just a big glittery gang of arse-kissers whose opinions are worth nothing, and The Artist was last year's bandwagon. They both nominated Bridesmaids in the screenplay category (the worst of their recent crimes) and can now safely be ignored.

I pretty much agree with your review of the film, but by 'exaserpate' do you mean exasperate or exacerbate? Both could work.

I've updated this, pretty sure he was going for exacerbate. Nice spot, and Bridesmaids for screenplay, that really took the biscuit!
