[F1] The 2010-2011 Winter Testing/Silly Season/Gossip Thread

James Allen seemed impressed with Ricciardo. He was not far off last weekend's pole time around Abu Dhabi, although he did recognise that the track was more rubbered in than qualifying was.

The Pirelli tyre tests began today:

Oddly, McLaren's test driver is doing the running, rather than Lewis or Jenson.

Bernie Eccleston mugged outside the F1 offices in Knightsbridge:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-11844613

He's 80?!! Glad he wasn't badly hurt. What kind of low life would obviously target him specifically, given his wealth, but a quite short 80 year old?

Obviously glad he's not too hurt but it does bring to mind his recent mocking of Buttons and Saubers experience in Brazil.

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/091120...il-attack.html

Guess the muggers thought he looked like a not too bright soft victim.

My wife was more concerned about the fact he is 81 and his playmate is 31.

Maybe the mugger was the playmate's former b**ker and wanted to find out what the little guy had that he didn't (apart from money, of course).
PS: He must have stooped real low to find out!

There's reports floating about that Webber had a fractured shoulder for the last 4 races of the season.

If so, you can understand why he might keep it quiet - could have been a perfect excuse to favour Vettel.

Quote:
He did not tell Red Bull team boss Christian Horner or anyone else in the team, aside from his trainer Roger Cleary and FIA doctor Gary Hartstein. He was given cortisone injections before driving in Japan and Korea.

Or perhaps he simply didn't want to admit to the team that he had injured himself doing something that could be considered slightly risky at a crucial time for them. I can't imagine they would have been too happy and it's not like it's the first biking accident he's had.

But that'll be all in his contract with them if the case. I doubt he'd be biking if his contract forbade it. If it doesn't, he's free to do whatever he likes - and probably good for his mental state. Webber's shown a few he's not afraid to 'upset' his team.

Red Bull's image is all about 'extreme sports' anyway.

Seems a little tasteless to me:

Quote:
from: http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...t-watches.html

Never one to miss an opportunity to make a dollar, Formula 1 magnate Bernie Ecclestone decided to pose with his bruised and battered face – the result of being mugged weeks ago – for Hublot watches, the official horological sponsor of Formula 1.

It seems that Bernie was wearing a Hublot at the time, and his new campaign will feature the tagline “See what people will do for a Hubolt”. We find it tasteless but strangely alluring…much like the watch featured in the Hublot ad campaign.

To be fair I'd be tempted to give Bernie Ecclestone a kicking for the sense of satisfaction I would get, don't think I'd need his watch to sell it to me
