See for example the story of the musical We Will Rock You, the whole thing is based around railing against cynically manufactured and marketed pop stars, attacking the very concept and demonising their puppet-masters
The script for that was written by (self styled, well at the time anyway)radical left wing comedian Ben Elton who would never sell his principles for the sake of presenting a Royal Variety Performance and meeting her majesty oh no. Most umbly pleased to make your acquaintance your Majesty, I am your most umble servant Uriah Elton

Hmmm. More 'Wembley as template for everything Queen' by the looks of things. Must try and keep an open mind.

Agree with that. One Vision always reminds me of (a) the "Making of .." video - "two tits, one dump .. John Deacon" and (b) the Wembley DVD with Freddie waiting to stride on the stage as the intro to One Vision strikes up.

Am I also the only one who, whenever they hear the CD version, doesn't always hear "God works in mysterious ways" at the start ?

That's superb .... not !!!

I remember when One Vision came out (shortly after Live Aid) that some areas of the media as Queen's response to the famine crisis - completely ignoring "Is This The World We Created?" (from The Works) which they actually performed at Live Aid.

Rolling Stone interview with Roger here explains the Queen Extravaganza: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...-tour-20110919

Up until now, I have had no real issue with all the things Brian and Roger have done under the Queen name. They've either not bothered me, or I've just been able to ignore them. However, this really seems to go to far and has a struck a bit of a bad chord within me. Some of the things Roger says here just sound bad.

He's disrespecting many of the, frankly, briliant Queen tribute bands that already exist out there by saying that none of them are "up to scratch". He also talks about how they want young guys who are "great looking". If you're worrying about how attractive the band members are, then you're off to a bad start.

The one spark of light I see amongst all this is that he mentions digging into the back catalogue and getting the obscure album tracks into the set list, and "not just repeating Live at Wembley".

Queen have been a dignity-free zone for quite some time now (John Deacon aside)

May has told the The Daily Star that they're going through the vaults for a 'demos' album so clearly no real effort was made for the reissues.

I thought WWRY was very good (only seen it twice though) so who knows.

They have done some crass things post-Freddie but, from what I can tell, Extragavanza is Roger's baby and very little to do with Brian.

They can do what the **** they like with the Queen name... It doesn't hurt the band or their back catalogue in my eyes.

Queen died on 24th November 1991, almost 20 years ago. The Tribute concert and the Made in Heaven album were a eulogy for the band, they were imperfect but then it was missing a vital piece to help pull it together...

All the rest of it? The Musical, the Paul Rogers crap , the "new" album with Paul Rogers. Queen extravaganza? Five? Xfactor? Forget it its not Queen it is two former band members of Queen doing what they want to do. They have the right to use the name and good luck to them, it changes nothing.

I still have Sheer Heart Attack and I still regard it as one the most perfect albums ever made.

Long live the legacy and ignore everything since that tragic day 20 years ago.

Seems like they are working on the Freddie and Michael Jackson demos:

http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/showbi...queen-stars.do

Edit: Watching Roger on the Jo Whiley Music Show on Sky Arts, he briefly mentions these recording and that they are looking at them. He names "State of Shock" and "There Must be More to Life Than This", which are songs from the Jacksons and from Freddie's solo work. Years ago I heard complete demos of both with the two of them apparently playing, but they were said to be fakes. When Roger was asked if they had been made public before he said "not really", so maybe they actually were leaked.
