The more I look at them, the worst they get. Rock In Rio Blues on MIH bonus disk sticks out like a sore thumb! I know it was a B-side at the time, but it's totally out of place. And then My Life Has Been Saved original mix on there instead of on The Miracle. There really is no rhyme or reason to them.

Possible highlights? A Kind Of Vision. The Highlander mix of A Kind of Magic (although an obvious inclusion would have been the Highlander version of Who Wants To Live Forever - bet Brian's ego couldn't have coped with that though).

I will probably pick up Innuendo because it could do with a remaster, and leave it at that. The albums themselves aren't really good enough to justify a purchase.

What a 40th Anniversary this has been.

Hammer To Fall (Headbanger’s Mix) sounds good to me!

I loved the guitar solo on the album, but they always cut the best bit out when it was on TV (and when they played live, as far as I remember). Hopefully it'll be an extended version of that kind of thing.

The Headbangers Mix is the informal name for the 12" extended version of the song. It kicks ass. It begins with a new intro based on the song's bridge, then proceeds into the album version as usual. Towards the end of the song, there's a new guitar solo which is one of Brian's best.

The single edit of Hammer To Fall is an absolute travesty, as you say it edits out the best parts. Fortunately when they played it live they did the complete thing.

You can easily find the 12" mix on YouTube if you want to hear it.

Forever and Friends will be Friends will be........

I mean, they're on my original 1990's CD anyway! Along with a Kind of a Kind of Magic.

That's really insulting.

'Live at Wembley' DVD is getting a 25th anniversary re-release in September. As a bonus this time it will also include the complete concert the band played at Wembley from the previous night (that could almost be exciting apart from the fact that the set list is virtually identical).

It's not even getting a blu-ray release. Heaven forbid we are given something new.

and any mistakes or differences will have been 'corrected' by Messrs Taylor and May in the studio so it'll be almost identical.

Would rather have a full recording of the Knebworth show as an extra. OK again the setlist will be identical, but at least it's more poignant as it was the final gig. It was recorded, as parts of it was on the Live Magic album.

Maybe they're saving that for the 50th anniversary...

If anyone is completing the set, then Zavvi looks like the best price if you use code VCCOUKZAV for £3 off £30, making them £53.25 for the lot

Just when you thought Queen couldn't sell out anymore...

http://www.queenextravaganza.com/

An 'official' tribute band, found through online auditions, X-factor style. From queenonline forums:

Quote:
The Queen Extravaganza is a live touring show celebrating and paying tribute to the songs, style and vision of Queen and part of this is that Roger [Taylor] is launching an American talent search that will offer vocalists and musicians the opportunity to star in it.

These guys will get a real paid job as part of this production. All the auditions will be online until the last round when Roger will check out the players who have made it through in a band setting - these sessions will be filmed available for viewing.
Brian May sometimes wonders why they don't get the respect that their peers - Bowie, Floyd, Zeppelin, Showaddywaddy - get. Things like this is why, Brian

That's amazing. Oddly, it chimes with my idea that tribute bands will become strangely acceptable (if they're not already) as audiences want to see the music performed live but when the original acts are too old (or dead).

Christ, that's a horrible idea. Not against tribute bands in general, they are great fun (and I've even toyed with idea of joining a Queen band myself for fun), but in making an official one. I'm fairly shocked, as Roger himself has previously described watching Queen tribute bands like "going to your own funeral".

Autralian Pink Floyd and their recent stadium tour of the UK for instance.

They don't seem to stay consistent with their principles very long, giving people the chance to accuse them of cashing-in. See for example the story of the musical We Will Rock You, the whole thing is based around railing against cynically manufactured and marketed pop stars, attacking the very concept and demonising their puppet-masters - but then the band themselves go on to appear on American Idol during the Paul Rodgers tour and then on X-Factor (or whichever seemingly identical show it was) when they had Absolute Greatest to sell

Yes this latest project sounds terrible, but I'm not the least bit interested in it so I'll just ignore it. My only hope is that they don't let this thing get in the way of projects like new DVD releases (which have been very scarce, GVH3 is about 8 years behind schedule now, and I don't even dare mention the long await anthologies).

I have no interest in Queen but even I've been aware of the anothology projects for what, 20 years? The irony is that if they concentrated on those they would've a) earned cash, b) maintained fan goodwill and c) kept some integrity instead of looking like the biggest whores in rock.

These reissues have been a real ****-take, given that fans KNOW there's more in the vaults, but they're spreading it as thinly as possible.

Been listening to the A Kind Of Magic a hell of a lot recently...there is no one alive that is not tempted to play air guitar during One Vision! What a great album!
