New US TV show: Rubicon *US pace, possible spoilers*

New AMC series. It doesn't start until August 1st but the pilot is up on AMC's website (you'll need to use a proxy if outside the US): http://www.amctv.com/originals/Rubicon/

The pilot is a bit slow, but I can definitely see some potential there. It has shades of Three Days of the Condor, and it's got excellent cinematography for a TV show.

I'll give it a try. Hope it's better than Persons Unknown which didn't grab me.

Like the look & sound of this but I think i'll wait to watch it when it starts properly in August. Seems kinda strange to let you watch the first episode & then have to wait seven weeks for the 2nd.

Rubicon - Conspiracy Thriller from AMC (Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead)

This started last night in the US (although AMC showed the a sneak peek of the first episode a month or so ago).

http://www.amctv.com/originals/Rubicon/

Quote:
The show is a conspiracy thriller starring James Badge Dale (who earlier this year headlined HBO’s The Pacific) as an analyst at a New York City-based federal intelligence agency who is thrown into a story where nothing is as it appears to be. Henry Bromell (Homicide, Chicago Hope, Brotherhood) has signed on as showrunner. The one-hour, 13-episode weekly series is produced by Warner Horizon Television and premieres this summer. (Click here to watch a sneak preview of Rubicon.)

"Rubicon is an incredible story about trust and power born out of the desire to find a way to capture the intensity and mystery of the best conspiracy thrillers in a series. It is a show that appeals to everyone who has some skepticism about the relationship between big business and our government, which we think is pretty much everybody,” said Joel Stillerman, SVP of original programming, production and digital content for AMC. “Our stellar cast and creative team allow us to continue to present premium television on basic cable."

The series cast includes James Badge Dale (The Pacific, The Departed), Oscar®-nominated actress Miranda Richardson (Sleepy Hollow), Dallas Roberts (Walk the Line, Flicka, The L Word), Jessica Collins (The Nine, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), Christopher Evan Welch (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), Lauren Hodges (Law & Order), and Arliss Howard (Full Metal Jacket, Natural Born Killers, The Sandlot).
After having watched the first two episodes of this I found it to be well made but pretty slow and sterile, but often shows like this can take a couple of weeks to blossom and with the current lack of decent telly on the schedule I'm willing to give this a chance for a while. Chase from 24 is still something of a personality vacuum, but at least in this show that's kinda the point of his character.

I didn't expect a merge. Only posted because it was a mod.

Only watched the first episode so far but despite its slow pace I really enjoyed it. Looks like it could be very intriguing.

New US TV show: Rubicon

Really enjoyed the first two. After trying to struggle through crap like persons unknown and the gates over the summer drought, this is a breath of fresh air and sits well with the rest of amc's and hbo's Sunday night output.

Me likes (even chase isn't that bad in it!)

I've enjoyed the first two episodes. The premise is interesting and it's a nice change from the crash bang 5 minute attention span dramas that are more the norm.

yep plus well acted, but will it pick up enough of an audience to get a S2?

watched the first episode last night

love these sort of conspiracy thrillers and really enjoyed it - didn't think it 'slow' at all.

although not a lot of shows, AMC are turning out some pretty good ones for such a small channel (yes, I quite liked The Prisoner remake)

Third episode continues moving the main plot along at treacle pace, fleshing out the other characters a little, but still just about does enough to reel you in & keep going...

This is right up my street - if you like things like the aforementioned Three Days of Condor or the Quiller Memorandum, you can't really go wrong with it. I think it's been terrific so far, slow-burning but hugely intriguing. Plus, I haven't seen Arliss Howard in anything for an age.

Episode four really kicked things up a notch for me. Especially the 'tie' speech. Brilliant piece of TV.

Yes, I liked that. Did a good job of showing off the strengths of the boss. I also liked the sub-plot with his team. The characters are already pretty well fleshed out considering we're only four episodes in.

I think the presence of the new showrunner is starting to make its self felt. This episode, even though not a lot actually happened story wise, was a brilliant character piece.

Really enjoying this show.

Really enjoyed this week's. For the first time I felt the show finally got out of first-gear & upped the plot-pace from glacial.
