I think the writing on the wall for such companies was a while ago, surprised they hung on this long. I suppose they limp on, hoping for some resurgence in renting films. Not sure I'd be investing in any bricks and mortar outfit.

Cargo Home Stores are closing all their retail outlets, with most due to be shut by end of January. Currently have 20% off everything except furniture.
It is unclear if the owners are keeping the website going or if that will close as well.

... stops trading at the end of the month. The BBC will continue to issue media, they just won't sell it direct.

They have had a lot of deals on lately, now we know why.

I got that big Sherlock BD gift set for 25 quid (100 quid off).

Couldn't find an appropriate thread, but (very) long read on the pressure pharmacists are under at Boots.

I'm surprised every time I'm reminded that BHS still exists.

BHS had a CVA a few months ago so no surprise it's now all ending.

I think their homeware was too good. I still have all the plates and stuff I bought for my first home 20 years ago and because it was looked after still looks as good as new. Only lost one plate my dad smashed a few years ago. Okay with all my time overseas like now, not used every day over that period, but still had a lot of use.

BHS feels very dated, stuck in the '80s to me, and last time I went in the shop floor was a total mess. Shame for people losing their jobs but never felt like they moved with the times.

Not bought anything from there for years. Only used to go to the cafe in Milton Keynes to grab a pannini now and again. What is their target market, over 40s?

As an over 40 I resent that comment.

Probably now worth less than the Ł1 they were sold for last time. Either way I don't think the venture capitalists lose out.

It's always the same with these bricks and mortar chains, stiff your creditors and only keep the stores that make a profit. A little later do the same thing again. Blockbuster and HMV did it multiple times.

BHS is going to join a long list of shops that, once gone, we'll wonder why it ever existed.

It's one of the last of the "you don't have a choice but shop here" relics of the pre-Tesco and internet days, and to be honest before every single high street has a vast array of shops. Admittedly we lived in the sticks a little in Cumbria, but even when we moved to Preston you'd end up going to Manchester because "it had a Marks and Spencers"

Often a BHS was the only place to buy your school trousers.
