Well the woman who's house Donna was in, she "broke down" entirely into the little flibbles, one of which was seen hopping out of the window. So no I do not think it was win-win for all - in the ultimate case the human was gone.

Yes, but wasn't that only when the emergency mode was activated? I thought they said something about that in answer to the question of why everything went, not just the fat.

the first woamn "broke down" because Donna fiddled and twisted the necklace thingy she took from the office when she was sat in the living room, that fiddling triggered the "full conversion" to fatlets(tm), see not rocket science

I understood that the people would break down into fatlets completly and thus die.

Yeah, but wasn't smst questioning why the Doctor was there in the first place, i.e. at the start of the episode? At that point Adipose weren't particularly big news or anything.

I guess it's just part and parcel of a fairly lame villain: a fairly lame reason for the Doctor to be there and Donna for that matter, given what she says about how she's tried to track him.

He did say that 'seeding a level 5 planet was illegal' so thats the reason why he was trying to stop it - He mentioned the Shadow Proclamation, which has been mentioned before and I've no doubt will be mentioned again.

I guess. I thought he worked out what she was all about later in the episode, though. At the beginning it seemed more like he was just fishing around.

Donna's fiddling started the conversion of fat to adipose, but Raquel initiated the total conversion when they realised that the parthenogenesis had been witnessed. Actually.

Captain Jack was a time agent turned rogue who met the doctor in the 1940s

He joined them and went to the year 250000 in the tardis where he was killed by the daleks and revived by rose.

using his "time bracelet" thingy he jumped back in time hoping to arrive in the year 2000ish but was off slightly and arrived in the late 1800s He then lived though the entire 20th century so for a period there were 2 jacks at the same time on earth. joining torchwood when it was created in the hope of meeting the doctor again. He then joined the doctor and travelled to the end of the universe, then back to the 20th century

He then got tranported back again to the year 500bc where he was buried alive, and was found again by torchwood and again, there were 2 jacks on earth. He was then put in stasis to wake up in the year 2008.

Somewhere between then any the end of the earth, Jack became the Face of Bo where he met the doctor 3 times.

or something like that

I'd like to have the willpower to get through Torchwood so I could fill in those blanks. But it's just too hard.

Series two is actually well worth watching, first episode is about the worst but other than that they were all pretty reasonable, even pretty good in a few places. I would have said the overall quality eclipsed that of DW Series 3, never hit the highs of the best of DW but was far more consistent.

As for the Jack timeline, my current estimate suggests that there were 4 Captain Jacks on Earth at some points during WW2! You'd have thought he'd have tried to pull himself.

Excellent piece in this week’s Time Out skewering the kiddy rubbishness of the show and lambasting RTD for the casting of Tate. Nice to read something from a journo who’s taken the blinkers off.

Well just back for my holls & watched this.
Tate & Tennant worked well again, & left me with the feeling that this could be a a good mixture & maybe the best of 'new' Who.

Smith & Jones was a better 1st episode, but his was better than New Earth (& the last Xmas special).

Thought the episode was more of a set up for the rest of the series, in a much bigger way than the others have been.

To sum up it was OK & did its job of keeping all the family happy, but this was one of those Who's that in a way I enjoyed the Thread about it here more than the episode its self
