I'm a massive Prez fan, so have to say I still love 4 out of them all...though 2 hasn't turned up yet

It just has all the best aspects of the show for me:

The afformentioned Prez, the brilliantly menacing Marlo, Chris, Snoop, politics and Carcetti and of course, the unforgettable Omar, in show-stealing form.

The only let-down is McNulty's role, but you just know it is a bridging season, and he will be let loose in the final series.

Did i read somewhere that he was filming 300 at the same time hence the cut down screen time?

But in all honesty i thought it was better that everyone else got more time instead of seeing a lot of McNulty. He's a great character but share the wealth you know.

Although i could easily watch Bunk go about his business all day. The man is brilliant.

Any 'The Wire' fans should make a point of picking up Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets by show creator David Simon. Obviously the TV show Homicide was based on it but also a lot of The Wire is drawn from it. For instance the opening scene of the series if taken directly from a scene in the book and Jay (Bunk and McNulty's portly sergeant) is based on a real life detective from the book (who incidentally appears in The Wire as Bunny's second in command).

Season 4 is my favourite. For all the reasons you mention but mainly because of the kids. The acting from them is phenomenal considering their age and the subject matter.

Season 2 is excellent (they all are though), a departure from season 1, enjoy!

Yes, McNutty was filiming 300 hence the lack season 4 screen time. Bunk or Omar are my favourite charcters I think, although that will probably change tomorrow...

It's far more consistent than the Sopranos ever was though.

No dream episodes in The Wire

True but I love the characters in the Sopranos just as much as the Wire.

Is it true that season 5 is only 10 episodes long (I think I read that somewhere)?

Me too, I think he's my favourite character of all, although Ziggy in season 2 comes close then Omar.
The Wire ***** all over The Sopranos quite frankly, there's not a wasted moment in any of it. When all is said and done and the 5 Wire seasons are held upto The Sopranos' 6/7 seasons I know which I'll be watching in full far more often!
I am at a loss really to understand how The Sopranos has dominated the Emmy nominations year after year yet The Wire has been shut out almost completely, I mean just ONE ******* nomination in four seasons ffs -HOW? HOW?????!!!!!!

Can't explain the lack of nominations but who cares? Doesn't make it any less good, just shows you how arbitrary awards are and you shouldn't invest any worth in them be it for Film, Music or TV.

He certainly has the best US accent of the British trio in the show.
I think Carcetti is on a par with him to be honest.

Says it all really.

Another bit of Wire trivia which I didn't know until Nathan-Wind posted it on the forums is about the Deacon http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/s...5&postcount=62

I know it's been asked before, but was never answered as far as I can remember:

Is the gap between seasons 3 and 4 in real-time? i.e. 2 years?

I only ask, as the apprentice Bubbles takes in at the end of 3, is a lot younger than the guy who appears in 4, but people like Marlo and Prez, seem to have only moved on a few months in-between?

Anyone?

I'd say real time. Look how much McNulty sorted himself out. Hardly an overnight job. And im assuming Prez had to do teacher training etc. And Kima's child was at least a toddler.
