Good lord what an expensive autumn this will be with the Bond set out too.

Expensive but I shall be asking SWMBO for this to be purchased and put away for Christmas, it looks absolutely superb.

That looks great. Shame about no North by Northwest for the UK set.

According to Amazon the UK release has 15 pages, not the 50 of the US version, if that matters to anyone. It's clearly significantly different packaging though, so the page count might be meaningless.

That's the one reason I'm not buying the US set!

Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome movie, but as this is a Universal set, I'd rather have it in the eventual Warner boxset.

Rebecca is a Selznick film, not Universal or Warners.

It's already out in America as well, released alongside Spellbound & Notorious by Fox/MGM back in January. All three are apparently region free, as reported by DVDBeaver anyway. Here's their Rebecca page with screen caps.

Amazon UK Marketplace link as well.

They are all region free. They all work fine on my UK PS3.

I'm glad that someone rates Rebecca as highly as I do. It's easily my favourite Hitchcock movie.

Thanks for the quick explanation. Its a shame studios cant get together for these complete collection, kinda I lend you mine and you lend me yours, my pink panther film collection for instance that is short one film.

Rebecca may well be my favourite Hitchcock, I think it probably is, woudl have to rewatch it and psycho to be sure. Another great one The 39 steps is also missing, guessing different studio again.

That's why Warner allowed Universal to include North By Northwest for their set as Universal let Warner include Spartacus in their US Kubrick.

One massive complete boxset will most likely never happen. Although, if the studios could work out a deal wherein they got a percentage of the profits depending on how many titles they had in the set, that would be *********** amazing.

39 Steps is released by ITV Studios in the UK and is apparently horrible. Criterion released it in America and by all accounts, it's not much better.

Used to have a region 1 DVD set similar to this (didn't have Psycho or NxNW in it) that had a burgandy velvet case, it was gorgeous.

Dave,
To avoid confusion, might it be best to leave the listed information as per the US press release?

The current US release of Psycho is different to the current UK release in a couple of ways. Apart from the lossy DTS mono instead of DTS-HD Master Audio Mono (and the additional european languages) it also missed out on the Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode 'Lamb to the Slaughter'. As the US press release lists neither of these in the specs for this set, it's safe to say that the new set will include the previously released US disc. (In fact does the US press release detail the audio specs because I can't find them anywhere else but here?)

I expect the UK set will simply include the current UK disc.

Keeping my fingers crossed for the best possible quality ORIGINAL audio for Vertigo though!

The US press release does not list any audio/subtitle info but Universal's press/retail info site does have the full specs for all films bar Topaz. HTF have reproduced it in full so you can see it 'as is' here:

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/t/321703/ushe-announcement-alfred-hitchcock-the-masterpiece-collection-blu-ray

I checked the Universal site for their individual Psycho listing to see if it had the same Psycho audio mistake but alas they don't actually have specs for it!

I've updated the article to makes things a little clearer. I've returned the Psycho audio information to exactly what Universal have listed so there's no tampering of 'official info' which I know can confuse matters. I'm 100% certain this is incorrect as they're not going to press a new disc for this set. And I'm pretty damn sure Vertigo will have lossless mono, but that's pure speculation. It would just be odd for it not to.

I've also updated the UK info paragraph to make things a little clearer (as suggested by Richie). Once Universal UK announce it I'll do a separate news piece. Hopefully they'll be quick about it as they have been with ET and Jaws.

And finally, updated the Warner Blu-ray details with the full list of extras and restoration info.
