From what I remember reading at the time, Over There wasn't popular because the audience just weren't interested in watching a show depicting a current ongoing war. Also, some critics moaned that it attempted to please everyone, of every political and cultural stripe, and hence tried too hard.

Anyhoo, this looks interesting, but I can imagine it struggling to find a US audience. It's not like all the current Iraq "problem" films have set the box office on fire.

Just watched the trailer for this. I too saw Over There and quite liked it. Having just finished The Wire I'm hoping for more of the same.

2 days to go.

Aint it Cool has review quotes from all the US Press & all rate it highly. Definitely sounds like must-see TV.

Do we know when this is coming to FX UK yet? I'm tempted to wait for it in case it's in HD.

it was ok - nothing happened in it but it was watchable enough. Frankly it seemed incredibly like "over there" without the back home bits to me, if you didn't know anything about either series you'd have problems differentiating the two.

Yeah, I have to agree, watchable, good dialogue, felt realistic, but ultimately didn't really go anywhere, which I guess was the point. No surprise to see that the higher you went up the chain of command, the dumber they got.

i thought it was pretty good, and the action does pick up, well it did in the book so i am sure it will in the tv show.

I for one thought it was bloody marvellous. Not a lot was supposed to happen - it was only the first episode, and they were clearly setting up the whole situation - remember this ep. was set right at the beginning of the invasion...hence all the waiting around by the batallion for the first 2/3 of the duration...

VERY well shot - some beautiful photography, and clearly a big budget was allocated - some nice CGI during the night scenes.

Great dialogue and acting (you wouldn't expect anything else from a HBO show, frankly), and nice to see a few familiar faces from The Wire in there.

Very much looking forward to next week - pity it's only a 7-parter.

It seemed to stick very closely to the book (the book is very good, so I guess that's a good thing) the main difference was the show starts before the reporter arrives.
It does get quite amazingly violent later on (again if it follows the book as it has been)

I wish it had subtitles though...

Really enjoyed this. James Ransone (Ziggy from the Wire) was very good. Not as goofy as Zig but a close relation

Figuring out who's who will take a while.

Amazing amount of product placement though.

There is in the book too, but I guess they did get Pizza Hut pizzas delivered from Kuwait and did eat skittles. Hardly over the top.

never watched the wire, so nothing to base the quality on but lack of decent TV at the moment is niggling. Bottom line - Is this show any cop?? cheers

It's funny reading this thread as most of the complaints mirror exactly what people were saying after the first episode of The Wire.

Good stuff, although I think I'd probably appreciate watching it more as the start of a marathon DVD session.
