The Middle / Modern Family / Other?

Now we're hitting the summer and the shows are drying up, was thinking of finding another comedy show they I might have missed to fill in the gap (though thankfully Entourage will be back in our lives soon).

The Middle + Modern Family both spring to mind. Were they both good, or just one of them, if so which one? I'm sure at least one of them got a decent amount of praise on here...

Also, any other comedy recommendations? I just saw an ad for Cougar Town, but looked up the thread on here and it was mostly rubbished, so not sure it's worth bothering with.

I like Cougar Town, simple comedy, some great characters, not hysterically funny but certainly watchable

modern family is also nicely watchable.

Both were watchable but Modern Family was the better series.

I think he's sold on Modern Family. However I believe it's the show that Arrested Development would have been had it been written for mainstream audiences

That's not a bad assessment camaj. I watched a few episodes last night and it's enjoyable stuff, not quite as clever as AD, but good laughs throughout. Good cast too.

Anyone who likes The Middle should check out Raising Hope. Watched the pilot this week and it has a similar vibe.

Still yet to try The Middle, should have tried it over the summer when there was little else to watch!

Big Bag Theory is suspiciously absent from that list

Funnily enough the review on highdefdigest.com made the same comparison, so it's not just me

Tried The Middle on Sky 1. Its like a rip off version of Malcome in the Middle with weaker characters. I'll stick with it a bit but its meh at the moment.

Welcome to last year!

You're exactly right about The Middle, I even made the same comparison. However it can be quite cute at times and the daughter is a lot more likeable than any of the kids from MitM

The middle seem to be more about the mother rather then the kids, hopefully that will change as the show goes on.

I also thought the first episode of Raising Hope was good, also worth a look is the Hard Times of RJ Berger showing on MTV that I am really enjoying, the content is a lot more adult then the comedies.
