Well it was entertaining at least, and great result in the end for Perez

What a race! Gutted for Russell who did everything right and was controlling the race from Bottas from right off the line before events unfolded, but really pleased for Perez - assuming the first lap investigation doesn't penalise him but that seemed to be mostly Leclerc's fault.

It's funny reading other forums where some people are so certain Hamilton would have overruled the pit call... maybe he would, maybe he wouldn't... but I mean Russell is hardly going to do that after two days in the car is he?

Hopefully that firmly stamps Russell's claim on a Mercedes seat at some point.

And now it looks like he’s going to get disqualified. Don’t penalised the driver fine for team, he didn’t do a single racing speed lap on those tires

It should be a loss of that drivers constructors points in those situations. Or a fine if outside the top 10.

Real shame for Russell after a great drive. Mercedes have form for messing up on those safety car pit calls, what a cluster ****

Did Mercedes do an "Irvine" on poor Russell?

Bottas is pretty bang average though, perfect foil for Hamilton I guess.

Gutted for Russell, but in the long-term I think his misfortune was actually of benefit. He got to demonstrate a lot yesterday - leading from the front, managing a safety car restart, overtaking his teammate, a recovery drive for the possible win, and a recovery drive to pick up points.

So in a sad way putting George Russell in the Merc has proved just how much of it is down to the car rather than the driver. No way to prove/disprove the figure, but it feels like it's about 75% car and 25% driver based on this performance.

It not a great revelation that the Mercedes is a much better car than the Williams.

Russell has just shown he's a better driver than Bottas however.

No obviously the cars are not the same performance, nothing revelatory about that.

It's always been a case that generally the winner of the championship is the person in the better car, but it doesn't help to keep watching when it's so blatantly proved like this.

It's just a shame we can't see everyone in the same car so it was clearer who the actual better driver was.

I think that what we'd call a 'top' F1 driver isn't actually *that* much better than an average F1 driver - you have to be extremely good to get to F1, barring paid for drives. The difference between the cars however is much more significant.

Obviously people point at Verstappen/Albon, but Gasly didn't cope well with the Red Bull, some cars will suit some drivers more than others.

Looking at Russell, driver of the day. I doubt his driving in the Mercedes was particularly better than in the Williams, but he'd never get driver of the day in a Williams unless he lucked into some serious points.

The F2 races this weekend were great, and the cars are much closer.

Bit of a shame tbh. He has nothing to drive for, and it would have been nice to see Russell in a second GP.

It is a shame but I'd do the same if I were Hamilton. This could be his 99th win.
