They might pull it out of the bag, but it's not looking promising. I'm guessing DC, if the movie gets made, will finish on a fizzle rather than a high.
Is it time to remake the old ones? Not a fan of remakes necessarily, but the ones where they seem to have to come up with something themselves, seem to fail far more than they hit. Out of the DC ones Casino Royale was based on a book, and followed it fairly closely, it was more than just the name. Skyfall I enjoyed, I can't remember much of the other two but I do remember them not being good.
So we are 1 in 3 for DC, I'd guess Goldeneye was good for PB, not really convinced on any of the others, so maybe 1 in 4?
I mean they reboot him all the time don't they, so why not go back to the original stories in a modern setting?
But I'm guessing we're going to start the latest round of who will play James Bond, my prediction is that they'll be a lot of talk about Idris Elba and it's time for a bit of diversity, and then we'll get Henry Cavill.

He's done 4 so far and all apart from the first have been pretty terrible and probably wouldn't get any interest if it weren't for the Bond name on it.

You do wonder about the franchise and whether anyone has actually worked out a value to the big name franchises. Even if the film is awful how much will it return?
I'm as bad as anyone, I'll generally add a Bond film in my crown jewels of film viewing.

Maybe it is all to do with the marketing, etc.
Having said that ... I thought the general consensus seemed to be the best cactus opposite of what you said; all of the DC ones have been great/excellent ( certainly in terms of box office numbers and, sometimes, critically ) except 1 ... Quantum Of Solace.

Skyfall and Spectre are terrible, they're overly long and just full of annoying characters doing stupid things. They were successfully box office wise, although by the time you factor in production costs, marketing costs, gross/net share of the profits etc. they probably didn't make as much as you'd think.

Quantum of Solace is great too, but you need to watch it back to back with CR.

Yes that's the best way to watch it; as a standalone adventure its not very good but as its the first in the series to be a direct continuation of a previous instalment it was not helped by a writers strike and having DC take a hand in writing the script along with a different director. To cover these shortcomings I think they went the route of a continuation; however Martin Campbell should have stayed on to do this and the end product would have been better for it.

Thread title probably needs a change now...
Anyhoo, the first official footage from EON has popped up:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQkO0Shirl8
Apparently wearing MASSIVE glasses is hip thing again.
Even as a huge Bond geek, after all the delays, accidents & behind the scenes shenanigans I'm struggling to find any enthusiasm for this, & if that tune features heavily in the finished film I might have to burn the cinema down.

Yeah, I think it’s got disaster written all over it, what with all the delays and the completely lacklustre announcement press conference.
Much as I love Craig in the role, I think they’ve given him way too much power.

It's a real shame how Craig's films turned out after Casino Royale. Royale is probably top 5 of all the Bond films but I would put Skyfall and Spectre in bottom 5. Skyfall is just too long and stupid and Spectre is just too boring with no good characters.

CR was so well done after the horror of the previous 2 or 3 but since that its been a VERY steep decline, some lovely set pieces but the stories and writing have been just terrible.
The last one one took me 3 sittings to get through it and i still can't tell you what happened.
Also Craig's constant 'I'm never doing another one' after each one has become grating, just leave then? I can't see why they keep bringing him back? Bar CR he's phoned it in every time.
I hope to be surprised by this one but the expectations as low as can be.

The producers obviously think he's the main draw but if that was the case we'd still be watching Sean Connery with his walking stick. Ultimately they could *almost* cast anyway as it's the character of Bond that people want to see, not necessarily the actor.

Be glad when we get rid off ugly Bond, I for one miss the gadgets. Quantum of Solace is probably the worst Bond film of all time.

QoS is far from the worst.
It’s pretty good as it is and even better if you watch it immediately after CR.

As others have said ... QofS is far from the worst.
Plenty of Moore's outings are worse and, arguably, either/both of the last two.

QoS was a mess as well for a reason. They were literally making it up as they went along and by "they", not the writers as they were on strike, it was DC and the Director trying to pad out a light script during filming.
I never really got the premise for it. Trying to price gouge the price of water in a poor country doesn't really make sense to me. Price gouging the US over petrol prices, that does, the US is rich and if people have to pay it they will. Making poor people who have no money pay for water, well they'll just die of thirst, they have no money.
It seems that the last two Bonds both had the same problem. They had a great opening movie and then declined as the series went on.
I thought Brosnan was a great Bond but the movies just got worse and worse. I've only seen Spectre once, at the cinema, I haven't even bought the Bluray and it's the only official Bond movie I don't own.

And by all accounts it’s exactly what’s happening this time. Half finished scrip and the rest being made up on the fly by DC and the director.
