CEX question

Does anyone know if CEX take DVD's from other regions? I've got a few region 1,3 and 4 DVD's I'm thinking of trading in just didn't know if CEX would take them or not.

It's illegal to sell titles that haven't been classified by the BBFC in UK stores snoopy, when CEX first started out their shelves were filled with Region 1 releases and so did many hifi merchants who sold laserdiscs (that was a bit ofa golden age for the high street for DVD importers), then the police started raiding the smaller Hifi shops and CEX soon shifted their R1 stock!

Yeah, I actually remember CEX taking Region ones back in the day. I think they blanket offered 50p or something per title.

I know they haven't done it for years and assumed because the law had cracked down. Frankly unless they're titles you're likely to get anything for on ebay, you may as well donate them to your local charity shop - the only places I can think of that take multi-region these days.

musicMagpie also take Region 1. Some people have horror stories about them, but I've only had one complaint - a missed collection - in 21 orders.

There's also Ziffit and Zapper.co.uk. I don't know if they do R1 discs but I'd urge you to check with them before going with MusicMagpie, because they will give you absolutely **** all for your discs.

There's a shop in South Croydon that also buys in Region 1 discs - funnily enough, it's about 100 yards from CEX, but on the opposite side of the road. I forgot what it's called though, sorry! (It's just like CEX and deals in 2nd hand games, movies).

Do they sell in-store as well, as in on the shelves? I wonder what the legality is concerning a shop buying R1 discs then selling them as a personal import product?

Yeah, the last time I was in there they had a few titles from the USA and Germany. Literally 4 or 5 out of the 600 or so they have on the shelves.

Probably easy to get away with it when you've only got a few titles mixed in with a glut of legal ones!
