Just finished watching "Murder Among Mormons"! It was a story I wasn't aware of and found it fascinating! Netflix are quickly becoming THE place for documentaries!
Its only 3 episodes but I highly recommend it!

We tried watching 'Blown Away' on Netflix (not a film I know) this week and whilst we like the concept (glass blowing reality show like pottery throw down, etc.), we just could not stand the dramatic OTT format, the editing nor the fact that programmes like this see the need to play distracting music over all the talking. We lasted 1 episode.

Netflix (+ Other Streaming) Recommendations Thread 3

I am 3 into beneath her eyes which is overblown uk based melodrama.

Now I enjoy it but it’s probably more a female appeal. I just wanted to watch it quick before it gets spoiled, based on the number of articles I have seen on “it’s crazy ending”
Only 3 more to go though.

If anyone is a big Survivor fan, Prime have a couple of random series of Australian Survivor.

First time in years there's been any VOD Survivor in the UK. Season 3 of Aus Survivor is brilliant - and gets better towards the end.

We watched it last night, and enjoyed it, but I always find these Netflix docs a bit manipulative. For instance - one person who is interviewed through the episodes only has an updated (revealing) subtitle changed from a misdirecting one in the last ep. And it was definitely misdirecting - the title didn't need to be there and gave the impression of a situation that wasn't in fact true at the time they filmed the person.

Also, having seen Book Of Mormon, we couldn't help singing "Moooorrrrmunnnnn" almost every time they said it...not helpful!

All documentaries are like that, they are great for introducing new subjects or giving you an over view but you really need to go and research them after to get a proper balanced view.

Yep. Almost all documentaries have an agenda of some sort, seldom does anyone set out to make a balanced one. I guess it makes them more interesting, but you do need to do your own research.

A friend of mine recently sent me this link, it's a way to get MUBI for 15months free and it all looks above board, you basically create an account for your free one month trial and both MUBI and SCRIBD, then in SCRIBD get an activation code for extending your MUBI to 15months free:

https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/15-...hread-comments

NOTE: This deal did not work for me in Firefox, never got a redeem code over at SCRIBD, but it worked in chrome. Also in the comments section they suggest that once you create your MUBI account you can try to cancel and they will offer you an extra month for free to re-assess, then you can sign up to SCRIBD and take advantage of the offer so you can get the 14months on top of the two months for 16months max. I haven't done this, but my friend has.

Thanks, Shingster. I never got a redeem code (in Edge) but somehow it seemed to work.

The next charge for your subscription will be on May 30, 2022.

Apparently, your wife can even signup for Scribd, and you can stack the codes in MUBI to get multiple years. But that seems wrong (wronger). These little guys are battling against NetFlix and Amazon giants, and I already feel guilty.

Use a VPN for a slightly different film selection.

Coming to America 2: keeps the spirit of the original if not the raunchyness of it. Not as good as the original but I had a smile on my face the whole way through.

Loved Coming 2 America too.. some good music, few chuckles with the heavy nostalgia. Good harmless fun. Couldn't keep a straight face every time Wesley Snipes danced into the room.

I liked The Dig.

Not a lot happens in it and maybe not as exciting as the latest Marvel movie but it had its own charm. Lovely looking film too and well acted. It just didn't excel itself into a very good movie.

Another 6.

The Dig would have been a much better film had they not bothered with the really asinine Chaplin/James/Flynn love triangle, which clearly is there to appeal to the yoof and adds nothing but groan worthy cliche and arguably sexist depiction of a pretty talented female archeologist. Less of that crap and more of the principals, who are excellent, would have gone a long way and kept the runtime brief.

Good, but could have been great.

Agreed. It was a pretty obvious lurch from 'based on real (interesting) characters' to 'fictional lurve triangle for padding'.

Watched Cherry this afternoon on Apple+, first thing in ages on my free trial. Very dark and depressing but absolutely riveting viewing, Tom Holland really hits it out of the park with his portrayal of a young man whose life goes from joining the army and the realities of your homecoming. Looks gorgeous in Dolby Vision and form the direction given by the Russo Bros.
