Latest Alan Ball movie Uncle Frank on Amazon. Pretty decent, quite gentle and heartfelt with some six feet under vibes. Peter Macdissi was really fantastic in it.

Did a double bill of this with Die Hard 2 (also on Prime!). A great way to spend a few hours .

There doesn't appear to be a Disney+ thread....

Anyhoo.. 'Adult' content coming to Disney+ 23rd Feb! New 'Star' section you'll get with Alien and Logan etc etc. Brill news.

https://www.techradar.com/news/disne...a-star-in-2021

Star will launch on February 23, 2021 in all territories that have been announced, including the UK.

This was confirmed at Disney's investor day livestream. You'll be given the option to enable parental controls on the app, at which point these adult-focused TV shows and movies will be added to the content mix on the homepage. You'll also have Star listed as a 'brand' when you open the Disney Plus app, alongside the existing Star Wars, Pixar, National Geographic and Marvel verticals.

What does that adult content look like on Disney Plus? It's unclear what exactly we'll get in the UK, but one example given for Star's integration was the X-Men film Logan being added to the Marvel listing page. We also spotted Kingsman, Family Guy, Planet of the Apes, Bob's Burgers, Terminator, Alien, Die Hard, Atlanta, The Americans, Modern Family and Borat. Even if these don't come to the UK, they do give you an idea of the type of content we'll see.

It is good news and will make it almost a certainty that I will renew my subscription when intro year has finished.

Aye it’s good news, just a shame they’re pumping up the monthly price to £7.99

Thankfully I paid for the yearly subscription so I’m fine until September next year.

Me too, got the £50 annual deal before it launched, as well as sharing the cost with a mate.

The new content will also include 20th Century Fox films and FX shows.

So does that mean they will stop censoring movies now?

Checked out All The Devil All The Time last night on Netflix.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7395114/

Very good film, very dark and bleak but told in such a watchable way you can't help but stick around to see how messed up things can get.

I watched that a while back. I found it completely depressing as we went from one awful person to the next with no let up.

We got it for a year, as a perk through my wife's employer. That year ends in March, not sure I can justify it for another year (and no more Mandolarian for a while - the only thing, other than Hamilton, we actually watched on it) at £8pm

Not sure what they've censored other than dodgy content. I have no plans to be a subscriber but them advertising having all of the disney films but they actually leave out Song of the South annoys me
. I want to be able to see if for myself to judge, from what I've read it isn't as dodgya s it seems as its set after the slaves were freed so those happy slaves are working willingly on the land (theoretically). Besides James Baskett who played the lead was the first black actor to win an Oscar (as opposed to actress) and not Sidney Poitier that some sites state (he was the first black man to win Best Actor Oscar, as Baskett's was an honorary Oscar)

If you've just finished The Queen's Gambit and need more chess, check out the excellent The Dark Horse on Prime. Cliff Curtis (whom you'll recognise from hundreds of supporting roles in Hollywood) knocks it out of the park in the (based on fact) story of a New Zealand chess player with bipolar disorder who teaches the game to underprivileged kids in a shed.

On the subject of Disney+, does anyone know if you can stack your subscriptions ? ie can you renew early (for a year), before your subscription is up, to beat the price increase ?

Doesn't look like it, also the cynic in me says that they pitched the offer that the majority of subscribers got the annual deal, and will all be hit by the price hike.

Catch-up post >>

Queen's Gambit (2020) - lives up to the hype! Superb cinematography and 1960s atmosphere. Who knew that chess could be so exciting ! Loses a point for a couple of flabby eps, and a touch repetitive. 8/10

Barry (2018) - a careful mix of comedy, violence and pathos, that could so easily have been ridiculous ... but they cleverly pulled it off . Imagine the cheeky episodes of 'Breaking Bad' in 30-minute chunks, with LOL/WTF/emotion in equal measures. It's slow to start, with a great end to S1, and more confidence in S2 so stick with it (including 1 amazingly bonkers episode). Recommended, 8/10.

Mindhunter S2 - I'd forgotten just how good this show is. It's 99% talking, but manages to be completely riveting. It chronicles the FBI, starting to use psychology to study serial killers, and is played straight, without the usual goofy cops. 8/10

Anne with an 'E' (2017) [27x1hr] - based on 'Anne of Green Gables' which I knew nothing about, it's 3 years in the life of 15yo orphan Annie. It starts off as 8pm on BBC2, but then descends into 5pm Sundays ITV territory. Some episodes are very silly, a couple of the minor actors are genuinely terrible, and the very end was rushed after being canned (by a studio dispute, not low ratings). But having said all that, it is very watchable thanks entirely to the young lass playing the lead (Amybeth McNulty). Cautious recommendation, only for fans of period & historical fiction. 7.5/10

The Comey Rule (2020) [2-part miniseries] - more interesting than I expected, like a lite House of Cards. Details why the FBI pushed the Hilary email story so close to the 2016 election, through Comey's eyes (overly sentimental ending). 7/10

The Stranger (2020) [8x45m] - very watchable, but a bit too daft and unbelievable. Echoes of 'Broadchurch' mystery, with a bit of 'Killing Eve' sass, but falling way short of both. 6/10

Raised By Wolves (2020) - A HBO show by Ridley Scott that had so much potential but degenerates into a cross between Kirk-era Star Trek and below-par Dr Who (and not in a good way). Original atmosphere, thought-provoking, good female lead, and looks/sounds great. Could have been brilliant, but ends up being for curiosity value only, 6/10.

I am up to episode 4 of the wilds on amazon prime which I am enjoying! Teenage girls crash onto an island and it’s done via flashbacks from the survivors

Thanks, presumably thought as much.

Though I imagine the people who signed up for the first year advance will know that the price is going up ? Presumably, paying for a year now, in advance, escapes the price hike in a few months time ?

You can currently buy a years Disney plus subscription pass for £59.99 and send it as a gift. Don’t see why you couldn’t send it to yourself or a loved one.

I checked the T&Cs and you can't apply it to an existing account but no mention of households so I'll probably just order one and send it to my wife.

This is the key part
