I've just found out Short Term 12 is on Prime. It's an absolute belter of an indie drama about carers and inmates at a foster facility for troubled teens, featuring early outings by 2 future acting-Oscar winners Brie Larson, and in a small role Rami Malek (and the superb Kaitlyn Dever, who'll probably get one someday). The whole young cast is great though; it looks as though it might be depressing, but isn't. (If you're Primeless it's also on BBC iPlayer, but only till Tuesday.)

Apple TV
TRYING
8 part British drama about a couple trying to have a baby via adoption
It felt very true to life. All set around Camden as well.
Not for everyone but it appealed to me.

Yeah, I enjoyed Trying, thought the two leads were great.

Finally got around to starting Money Heist and wondering why I waited so long.

We're a bit behind but nearly finished S3 of The Marvellous Mrs Maisel - such a good show, so well written, acted, etc. Absolutely fantastic.

Oh just read a review that said it was good.
I think that’s the issue with Netflix stuff, it’s no real effort to watch, they are mostly 90mins so you may as well watch it over say “the one show” /Corrie
That’s what I blame all my rubbish watching on. “It’s only 95 minutes!” (Watched night hunter which had Henry cavail in and was quite meh, solving a murder)

If you liked 'Uncut Gems', Benny/Josh Safdie's 'Good Time' was a good watch on Netflix.

It had a similar gritty look and feel to Uncut Gems and a similar sound track.

I'd heard this was the film that helped get Robert Pattinson the role of the new Batman.

It was utter fluff, but quite sweet in places. & am I the only one who found it a bit weird that the love interest was about 2 foot taller than her?

I see they've just dropped a sequel, but the 2.5 hr running time is putting me off...

Also on Netflix, Teenage Bounty Hunters is much much better than the title suggests. Highly entertaining stuff.

I love this show, am also near the end of S3. Just watched the episode where after 3 years of it not addressing the issue of Suzy's sexuality we get an episode both addressing homosexuality and racism. Took so long and then covered both subjects in same episode, let's hope it carries on because although I lvoe the show it is a bit of a cookie cutter image, which is its charm, but I noticed quite soon she hardly ever bombs like a real comic would, however her standup is a highlight as it is normally funny (as is a lot of the snapping dialogue, thinking her parents here!)

Anyone watch The Boys on Prime? I just got around to watching it and it's amazing! Can't search this thread for it as the name is too short.
New season coming on Sept 4th and I can't wait.

Yeah I watched all S1, thought it was pretty good. Starts very strong and maybe loses its edge slightly. Looking forward to S2.

FYI there is a 4K version on Amazon of it, you'll need to search for it though!

2.5 hours!

these films should be 90 mins long. 95 mins at a pinch. AND NO MORE. That is the rule of netflix movies!

Netflix (+ Other Streaming) Recommendations Thread 3

Almost finished the new video gaming documentary, “High Score”, on Netflix. It’s great when it concentrates on game design, but ultimately feels too slight (only 6 episodes) & only scratches the surface. Hopefully there’s more to come...

I'm in this...well a picture of me is in Episode 1.

The picture that introduces the Space Invaders Championships was actually taken at the UK champoionships and I'm there second from the left wearing the Angel Witch T-shirt.

Karate Kid update Cobra Kai is now on Netflix; William Zabka is excellent as the dope who can't decide if he's a bad guy or not, Ralph Macchio is good too, but the rest pretty much depends on your tolerance for soapy teen angst (mine is low). Worth it for Zabka though.
