I'm sure landing Pogba will soften the blow, but highly amusing to see City fail to land a pretty average midfielder on the same day Utd sign Sweinsteiger.

This is what I really hope went down:

Richards to Delph: Wanna play a trick on City to get them back for not playing me?
Delph: OK buddy.

Delph would not have played much in a City side like this and would have just wasted away. He made the right decision to stay and grown in a team where he will get regular football.

Good luck with Sterling. I think he is probably the most overrated player in modern times and you are stupid enough to pay for almsot £50m for him. Astonishing.

Delph was only being signed to satisfy the homegrown rule. I think if he called it off he did the right thing.

If the rumours of him failing his medical are true then City taking the heat will go down well with players I imagine.

I was never comfortable with us signing him. He screwed us once before when leaving Leeds to join Villa when by all accounts City thought he was signing. He's a decent player, but not one to lose sleep over IMO.

£44+5m addons for Sterling, Its far too much ( Liverpool got an excellent player for free and 45m! good deal for them ) but we need the homegrown players this year and he will work out quite well I think. Its time to see if he is as good as he thinks he is.

Im guessing by our rumoured targets that we are going to go to a 451 formation.

Aguero/Bony
Sterling, De Bruyne, Silva and Nasri fighting for 3 spots, all interchangable and all can play left/centre/right
Pogba+Fernandinho/Yaya

There is a lot of debate as to whether Pogba is Homegrown too.

Glad the saga is over. The only true test of whether he is worth the money will be what we win with his help over the next few seasons.

perhaps he's happy with playing as captain every week and getting regular England call ups?

maybe Richards, Sinclair, Wright-Phillips, Milner had a word with him about the balance between a chance at silver-ware versus killing your career?

Tbf, you only kill your career if you are not good enough - maybe he realised he wasn't up to it?

Second time he's turned us down at the last minute (assuming he didn't actually fail the medical), once was before we had money.

And Wright-Phillips has no place whatsoever in your list. Richards is also debatable, as he was first choice for years, until injuries took their toll. Zabaleta in his prime was/is the best right back in the country (and cost 6m, so not a big money signing) - we should have just played Richards any way because he's English? Milner played as many games as anyone last year, and was an England regular. Barry also had the same experience. Joe Hart?

Sinclair was just ******* rubbish.

Okay, swap Wright-Phillips for Rodwell...

I liked Rodwell.

For the ten minutes he was fit, he looked a player.

This is a guy who pulled his hamstring driving to work, remember. Hasn't made any progress since leaving either.

For those who think it's bad at City for English players.

Nice, didn't know that, but it's an interesting stat.

To back up what Eastlander is saying Barry, Milner and Hart were all key components to one of both of our league titles; Richards to a lesser extent, but he certainly had a good season in 2011-12.

How many English clubs have won trophies in the last 5 years?

4 or 5?

Bit of an obvious stat. Should read "more English players have won medals at City than at Arsenal or Chelsea over the last 5 years"

Does that include women's football?

Doesn't Adam Johnson have a league and FA Cup winners medal too (somehow?)

And of course, Joleon Lescott... It's a myth.

It's a stupid stat...

I'm pretty sure you could substitute the headline for Argentinian's or Ivorians...

City with the benefit of their millions have had the same flush of success that Chelsea had. They've been the most successful domestic club for the last 5 years.

They initially did buy English at the outset, but then they got old.

Good question, I have no idea. It would have been nice if they had listed the players and medals, I dont have time at the moment to go digging for the info.
