Welbeck assists Ozil, then Ozil assists Welbeck. A great 2 minutes in an otherwise lackluster performance.
An own goal makes it 0-3.
Don't **** this up!

We do seem to like Villa Park. Nice to see Ozil playing as a proper No. 10, but I hope it just wasn't because of injuries elsewhere. Hopefully that goal for him will get him purring again, as might Welbeck opening his account.

Ooooh a shiny new thread!
Happy with the performance, Ozil and Welbeck got the confidence boost they needed after a few lackluster performances, City, Chelsea and Spurs all dropping points helped make it a good weekend.
Interesting to see the League Cup team tomorrow, an indication of who Wenger things are on the fringe of first team, wont have many defenders to pick from so god knows who will play!

Depends if he wants to risk Chambers getting injured I suppose. Maybe a back four of Monreal, Chambers, Bellerin and Haydon in some order. Or risk playing Per.
Southampton aren't known for their physicality, so hopefully we'll get through unscathed whatever the result!

Wenger seemed unsure if Monreal would be ok with his back injury. He said it was a tricky one. I guess Gibbs will have to play if not. Or call up one of the youngsters.

I think he will have to go young, Ormonde-Ottewill possibly?
It was quite scary to see on Saturday there was zero defenders on the bench

Tonight's team: Ospina, Bellerin, Chambers, Hayden, Coquelin, Rosicky, Diaby, Wilshere, Alexis, Campbell, Podolski
Subs - Martinez, Ajayi, Gibbs, Mertesacker, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla, Akpom
Obviously an inexperienced back line, but a decent looking attack. Could be a high scoring game! Great to see Diaby start a game again.

Yes, really hope Diaby can stay fit. Nobody deserves it more than him. Are Southampton full strength?

Five changes from the weekend. First start for striker Sadio Mane, and the team looks solid overall. Won't be easy.

Sanchez scored a beauty of a free kick, but can't really complain if Southampton go on to win from here. Clyne's goal was an absolute belter.

Nope, and lucky not to lose by more really. Forced a couple of decent saves but not much else. Odd that despite all the fringe players on display (Podolski, Campbell etc), the one player that showed desire throughout was Sanchez.
Can't say I'm too bothered either really. Might be better for our overall squad without an added competition, especially until the likes of Debuchy and Giroud return.

I really enjoy this competition so disappointed to go out, sounds like Southampton were worthy winners though.

As ever with Saturday evening kick offs, I was on the way to work for most of the game. How did we play? Obviously pleased not to lose, but we're drawing too many at the moment.

Pretty quiet at the moment it seems. Not especially looking forward to Wednesday's game tbh, what with injuries and our general lack of form. A win is essential though.
