Game of Thrones the Board Game

Hey All,

Just wondering if anyone on here plays this?
We have a group that get together to play poker/board games occasionally and this has been a real hit - very deep game.

Just interested who else might be playing it out there, as we still have some rule debates on occasion!!

It is. To be honest, it's not as complicated as it first looks (i did play my first ever game with my parents, which was a... bad idea), but so long as you are used to playing different types of game there is nothing too difficult!

Game of Thrones the Board Game

What's the game duration like? Does this increase significantly with more player?

We've found it needs a good 5hrs on average, but has been shorter...

Player count doesnt make a huge difference - more people means a bit more carnage, less means a slower starting period (not by much tho as the board is more compressed)

I've played it a few times and quite enjoy it but must admit don't tend to do to well, can't work out the right tactics to use. With routed troops often coming back into the game the next round it can make it hard to keep hold of the hard won castle that you got the previous round.

We've only played this the once, with the 4 of us playing that took around 6 hours. 1.5 of that was probably learning the game, and it still turned out that we got some of the rules wrong!

To be honest I found it all a bit draining - by the mid-point of the game I was really wanting it to be over so I could get on to something else. Quite frustratingly, I made a break to win in the 2nd to last turn, so had a slight point margin and a good spread of territory, but this only lead to everything all attacking me in the last turn causing quite a point shift.

There is definitely ganging up that happens, which can be frustrating... That said, it usually turns around in a couple of turns (either that or everyone forgets about the quiet player at the bottom and they go on to win!!)

My mate bought it, and we did try it.

Took forever to get going, very daunting game mechanics. It is of course actually quite simple once you know what you are doing.

Unfortunately, I firmly believe the game is utterly broken with 4 players. House Baratheon starts down south has a huge advantage by taking the non-contested areas.

Would love to try it with 6 as I think it would come alive, alas my group is static with 4 of us.

There are issues with 4 players, but there are fixes. For a start, the seond time people know that Barathion will stand too good a chance which counters it!
However, there are more drastic fixes which we have found to work... can't remember them right now, but check out BGG

Yes, that involved printing out board templates or something.

Not something we were really prepared to do.

It's good with six players though, worth trying if you can get enough people together!

No it doesnt - uses exactly what's in the box - you switch out a house and use different player number tokens

Interesting you mention that as it's exactly what happened with us, I think we even let a couple get taken too easily due to a misunderstanding of the rules.
