That was my point yesterday - it's hard for them to justify this whole multimedia experience, if they are contemplating removing access to disc! If they are contemplating that, then losing Kinect is a no-brainer.

They can't dump the Kinect, if they do then the only reason they can appeal to developers "Everyone got one" is gone and its a slippery slope from there.

It's gone as soon as the game goes multiplatform so it's pointless, really.

I can't imagine devs would touch it given the choice
But you just know MS make it clear it's there to be used
I personally don't think we'll see a lot of kinect only titles, y'know.. like fighter within

Do a lot of the games use gestures? Wouldn't it be cheaper to just incorporate a mic for all the voice control stuff?

Kinect is not a passthrough mic. It includes processors and API's to interpret both gestures and voice commands. You can't just drop it from the console and still have the same voice command functionality.
As for games using gestures on the One, not many yet (Zoo Tycoon supports them but doesn't require them, for instance). But there will be, just like on the 360. The likes of Dance Central or the numerous Kinect games for kids (my daughter plays and enjoys half a dozen). Gestures for core games have been markedly less successful last gen, so who knows how many there will be this gen. My guess is not a whole lot. Though the increased precision could lead to some interesting stuff on exclusives with more subtle hand and finger movements.
Also, there is the crazy stuff like the incoming D4 ( http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...tter-on-kinect ).
The point is, Kinect is more than just a PS Eye and mic stuck together and MS has bet quite a bit on it by making sure it's always available and requiring app devs to support it. You very likely won't just see it disappear so soon.

MS bet quite a bit on the Zune as well.
What last gen games used gestures? I don't remember a single one. PS Move was pitiful and the Kinnect was limited to menu controls as far as I remember for anything mainstream.

I'll buy a One if they do one without Kinect. They have 2 months to decide as I'm going next-gen in April. If they insist on having it I'll go for the PS4

Agreed, for my above reasons, it won't happen in 2 years let alone 2 months.

Can't believe people are still moaning about the Kinect. They've made the decision they want to incorporate it into the future of gaming on the Xbox, for that to work...they have to include it in the package when buying an xbox. If you don't like it, then buy a PS4.
I never really wanted the Kinect, but use it a bit. It's kind of fun and a little intuitive, but doesn't really bother me either way, I wanted an xbox one. So I bought it...Kinect and all. Life's too short to be moaning all the time and in this day and age, we always have alternate choices.

I disagree! Now more than ever consumers know what they want - if we didn't 'moan' about what these companies want to do, we'd have micro-transactions in all games and all games would be digital only with no resale and an RPP of Ł54.99.
MS's U-turns saved them from completely failing in the early stages of this gen. They made the U-turns because of consumer moaning. They should be thanking us.

You can thank us when we get the Kinnect-less Box. At some point, they will decide to win us over.

I wouldn't mind if the ******* thing worked. It's EXACTLY the same as the last model - flaky and inconsistent to the point that it's just a gimmick.

Voice control has to work 100% of the time or it's pointless. If you have to repeat yourself even once, it's quicker to press a button. Our living room stuff has slowly evolved to the point where most of our stuff is controlled by mobile apps which can be personalised to the user - that just happened, we didn't have to go and buy one single thing for it to happen, it feels like a natural progression and the Kinnect is fighting a losing battle there - the idea of buying one box to control other boxes is looking old fashioned when everything is on a tablet or on a cloud and can be accessed just by swiping your phone. At some point, this will dawn on MS. Might take a while, but it will.

The one thing I'd use Kinect for (and which I could use it for on the 360) is Netflix searching. And MS didn't include that functionality on the One.

Use the Netflix phone app, add it to your list and there it is? Not tried that method, but the voice search on the phone app is good. I do use my phone to control Netflix and it's a lot easier and natural to use than any remote or other method I've come across.
