Levy is a shark! Say what you like about him but he doesn't mess about when it comes to negotiating a deal. Sell on fee was 15% which would have netted you a tidy sum. Apparently it's now 2m tops. I would be furious if I was a saints fan. Not a nice situation when you are taking advantage of a club in financial strife but that's the nature of the beast now....

We finally get the striker we need just as we are about to flog our best player for him to link up with. A decent striker last season and we'd have finished 4th and could have offered Bale CL football. Fair enough, Levy has spent now but it should have been last Jan to maintain our push for top 4.

To be honest, top 4 isn't going to make much difference to whether Bale goes or stays. If he goes then he'll be going so that he has a more than decent chance to win things, not to just be at a Club that has gatecrashed the party.

I don't really feel one way or the other about the money; we were desperate at the time - no money to pay wages & Rupert Lowe was doing his best to run us into the ground. I'm just glad that that regime is becoming a distant memory now.

Like you say we'd be due a split of some 'youth development' money for Bale if sold - anything's better than nothing

Well hopefully you don't get in that mess again. With young players like Shaw likely to attract some interest this season it makes no sense to bring these young players through and then not benefit from them if you sell them on.

Looks like Dempsey is on his way back to the US. Probably for the best and we should get back most of our outlay. Surprised a couple of prem teams are not in for him. In the right system he's good for 12-15 goals a season. Not our system though!

Been confirmed that Spurs have made a deal with Major League Soccer (Seattle Sounders), didn't see that one coming, oh well not a great loss. I was happy when we signed him due to his final seasons performance at Craven Cottage but he didn't do much for me in a Spurs shirt.

Spurs game away to Monaco is live on ITV4 in a bit if anyone is interested.

Not really a great insight but Les Ferdinand is saying that Bale to Madrid is 'inevitable'

Livermore at centre back today. Another season of 'transition' then. Defoe injured already. Adebayor decided not to travel.

This line-up is an insult to Monaco. They should get double figures.

He was decent if unspectacular, probably would have been better off playing further forward rather than the 'hole' position where he was often played. He always put a shift in and scored a few important goals but ultimately he wasn't the level of player required.

Think Dempsey was a valuable squad player. Always a goal threat and put in a shift. If we sold him then its cos we were getting his wages off the bill and have something better lined up. Which if we have 80m coming in is a distinct possibility. Also Holtby should be featuring more.

Bit worried what the plan is as time is moving on. Any player we go in for now will have 10m added on

Re: The Tottenham Hotspur Thread 2012/2013

Bit of a tonking at Monaco then, 5-2. Was at work so didn't watch but a partnership of Fryers and Livermore, with Kane up front, doesn't look good.

Oh well, I guess the first eleven will be very different.

AVB has been sounding off saying we are talking to Madrid but Bale is not for sale. Think that might come back to bite him on the bum.

Would be happy if they come to agreement to sell him next summer and fix the fee now. Give us time to scout and buy replacements.

The departure of Caulker is looking more and more rash now imo, selling him a week after the injury of Vertonghen and now Dawson is in the sick bay along side both him and Kaboul. Good work Daniel!

There must be a new CB lined up though right?

Think they thought the Romanian Chiriches was nailed on. Poor skills and probably will mean paying over the odds for someone not as good. Cant understand why we let a good youth prospect go before the replacement was signed.

Apparently Caulker didn't want to stay as he wasn't first choice or guaranteed regular games when others were fit.

But then there was a quote the lines of 'you never know in football, things change/can happen', or something.

Seems nailed on he's off.

Haha yeah, anything can happen. Apparently that applies to transfers, too. What's news on Bale, btw? Last I heard was Brendan Rodgers comparing him to Luis Suarez, that Suarez should cost as much as Bale. I don't know if it's true or invented by media. But if it were, would you say they should cost the same?

Not quite what he said...

He was saying if Bale is worth £100 million, is he worth 100% more than Suarez?

Basically it's a message that £40 000 000.01 isn't enough money...
