Not at all, we need some wide and pacy cover so this looks like a good deal. Bale is irreplaceable in reality - if he goes this season then I can't imagine it being less than £60m and I can't see all of that being reinvested as there just doesn't seem to be the affordable quality out there.

That is a good price if true. Real do need a marque signing as Barcelona have got Neymar and with Falcao and Cavani going to France there aren't many other higher profile players left. Think Spurs need to buy a couple more players quickly before this goes through otherwise the selling clubs are going to put their price up if you've got £85m to spend

£85M seems optimistic. It's inevitable at some point soon and good luck to him wherever he ends up.

Well apparantly we have already bid €25m for Soldado which has been rejected, crazy money but he has the record to back it up.

Unless it's City, obviously. Although Bale doesn't seem the sort.

I'd take that, not much point getting money if we can't find anyone to spend it on! It won't happen like that though.

Don't believe this Marca story at all. Surprised that it is getting so much coverage but I really shouldn't be.

I honestly think that if the above is true, then it's just Madrid posturing in response to the alleged interest from United, I do believe he'll be off sometime soon but I can't honestly see him going anywhere other than the Bernabeu when that time comes.

Villas Boas really doing his best to make Bale feel valued:

"He's a player that we are willing to continue to have."

Yes, thought that sounded a bit odd myself.

Reports emerging that Spurs have rejected an £82m bid from Real Madrid.
Though the story is on the DM website so to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Re: The Tottenham Hotspur Thread 2012/2013

And in even more tenuous 'news', see on Twitter that 's picture been removed from Valencia's official Facebook page.

Now if that doesn't mean he's obviously coming to spurs, I don't know what does!

Re: Bale, the guardian are also running a similar story and that bale is apparently angry with levy over the move. Hmm, did think he would stay this season at least but these stories are ramping up a bit now.

If they've seriously been offered that amount, in Cash.....I say take it.

You need to be careful with Real Madrid and big money transfers. Utd were apparently given £80million for Ronaldo, but I don't remember seeing a penny of it.

I don't think RM can actually afford Bale tbh. Or at least not in terms of the amount we will demand paying upfront with the rest over a year or two.

Bit disappointed in the amount of the press that seem to be happy in stoking up the speculation and/or looking to see him leave the PL. Not really a surprise of course, especially as during our first ever CL match on ITV even then during the match analysis, they were saying we'd struggle to keep hold off Bale the next season. That was what, 3 years ago?

He's outgrown the Club and did so long ago. To be honest, he doesn't strike me as hugely ambitious but he's still 1000 more ambitious than THFC.
