I've not really looked into this game yet but generally speaking I will get on vastly better with a third person game than a first person one. I imagine it's not just CD Projekt changing their style - not everybody likes both perspectives.
Back in 2013 they said it would be a mix of first person and third person. It seems that third person view is now minimal such as ability to switch to third person during story cutscenes and during certain vehicle sections. These sound mostly like they are giving the player an alternate viewpoint during non-controllable sections - while you can control ground vehicles the flying ones aren’t controllable so I assume this is the limit of third person view.
First person view makes perfect sense like the last couple of Deus Ex games. But given the amount of character customisation it still makes sense to give the player the ability to see what you look like.
They have also said that first person view makes it easier to take in the detail in the world.
Half Life 2 was decent enough. Never got into Bioshock - would have been better third person now you mention it.
I'm not saying every game has to be third person. I'm saying I'll enjoy most games more if they are. I'm not writing Cyberpunk off for this. But it's gone from a definite pre-order to a try before I buy.
I pre-ordered Witcher 2 and 3 and I prefer Cyberpunk. So this seemed a sure fire bet and now isn't. I'm sure others feel the opposite and prefer first person. It's just personal preference. I mean these others are all wrong but...
I love third-person when it's done properly - something like Zelda for instance or more recently Horizon - but not when your character feels floaty and not anchored to the world properly, like the 3rd person view in all Bethesda games and especially the weird, sliding along physics of The Witcher 3. Projekt have had a crack at 3rd person three times now in their most famous franchise and they've not done a great job of it playability-wise (obviously visually Projekt are send to none imo), so I'm happy to let them take a crack at 1st person.
I only ever played Skyrim (and Fallout) in third person when wandering around and exploring and then combat in first person. Fighting in third person was awful IMO.
I'm such a huge fan of The Witcher and I was a little disappointed when they said this is going to be first person. This is a RPG yes? RPG's should always be in third person IMO OR at least have the option to switch between the two. But, I'm still looking forward to it. Really want some gameplay!
I'll never understand the mentality of the gamers saying "no deal" over this issue though. It's not like you hear film fans making complaints like "oh this comedy is in 2.35:1? That's not right, comedies should be filmed in 1.85:1" if the game is designed to be played in first person and you trust the developer to develop a good game, it shouldn't matter if you get a third-person option or not!
If Projekt said "oh we started development in third-person then switched to 1st person later into the project", then I could understand the complaints and skepticism, but if they designed it from the beginning to be 1st person then that is what the game is, whether it's an RPG, a platformer or a racing-platform-shooter mashup.
I’ve alwsys though Deus Ex has worked well in first person and from listening to game scoop and couple other podcasts they seem to compare the two as good comparison
The “bank” mission in the most recent deus ex is up there as one of the best RPG missions in a game so if cyberpunk could move that forward I’m happy with that
Must of been at E3 demo for the press, some crappy youtube gaming channel recorded audio of the game and leaked it on online (there was no NDA but its professional courtesy, also other companies will blacklist you) they were hoping to profit from it but the video got taken down but not before someone download the video and other sites ran with it. Cue the **** who did trying to make out he is the victim, turns out this person is Shane Satterfield, who throw his toys out of the pram when he worked at gametrailers over the negative comments over resident evil 6 (the infamous resident evil 6 rumble) forgot all about that
Will not link to the audio or shane's video but another YT rips him a new one, shane is still a vile piece of crap
What a tit! Betrays a professional courtesy and makes life at best more inconvenient in the future for his fellow games journalists going to these press previews, and then brags about how he was the only "journalist" with the smarts to put the content out there and stir up discussion. Thank god he didn't get to profit from this in any way, I really hope he gets blackballed out of the industry off the back of this.
Looks like it will offer good, solid sandbox gameplay but I didn't see anything fresh or innovative that we haven't seen before and the visuals were good (especially the outdoor city scenes) but interior visuals were just ok. They did keep stressing it's a work-in-progress so hopefully lots of spit 'n polish to come, to bring it up to the quality we've seen with the likes of RDR2.
