There's also a Sainsbury's exclusive Blu-ray, with an alternate cover and (according to them) "90 minutes of unseen bonus content".

No audio commentary though. I suppose it wouldn't be a Disney release if there wasn't at least something missing.

Good spot, will add that now. Got to wonder what exactly is on the Sainsburys bonus disc though - aren't these things usually just hours of crappy internet featurettes from the marketing campaigns?

I'd strongly doubt they'd be creating 90 minutes of decent stuff just for a supermarket, unless they do it in every territory. Even so, isn't it likely to be some sort of cartoon Avengers or something

Why not? Hunger Games has an extra disc which is a port of a US store 'exclusive'.

The wording under the "Special Features" tab on Sainsbury's site is irritatingly vague. They don't include Building A Dream: Assembling the Avengers in the list of non-exclusive extras; then they add simply "Bonus on the Sainsbury's exclusive disc: 90 minute documentary".

Possibly, it could be the bonus disc from the US Phase One set.

Target have this bonus disc as an exclusive in the US and the German Steelbook is also getting a bonus disc, which is presumably the same. That's what I've gone for, as it's a steel, has the extra disc and the proper title (). No idea if it has the commentary but I'm guessing probably not.

The UK press release definitely details the documentary with no mention of retailer exclusivity. Here's the excerpt:

Also, for the first time, Marvel shares scenes that never made it into the cinematic version of the movie and invites viewers to the very early stages of pre-production on the film “Marvel Avengers Assemble”. Included in the 90 minute documentary ‘Building A Dream: Assembling the Avengers’ is never before seen footage from ‘Iron Man’ as well as fascinating insight from director Joss Whedon and producer Kevin Feige on how they began creating the Marvel Cinematic Universe for what has been described as “the smartest, wittiest, & most unapologetically entertaining comic-book adaptation of the modern era” (Kevin Maher – The Times) and become one of the most anticipated and talked about movie events in the world.

But after a quick look at various retailers and then another look at Sainsbury's description, I gotta say, it's looking like that 90min documentary is Sainsbury's exclusive content.

I'll try and confirm.

And confirmed :(

Just updating but that makes the list of extras on the UK release pretty thin (unless you buy from Sainsbury's).

Can't say I'm surprised, but I am disappointed.

Hopefully whatever's in the US release's Assembling the Ultimate Team featurette is either a) lightweight promo rubbish or b) also included in Building A Dream. Not that that accounts for the commentary. Maybe I should be trying to import the Target release after all...

Please can you confirm the audio specification with Disney.
Amazon.co.uk don't state but on Amazon.de it says DTS-HD.

This is the same trick Disney pulled with John Carter where the UK and European disks were DTS-HD but in the US they got full DTS-MA.

Is so they can fit on more crappy European dubs on the disk and use in more countries. Can't understand why the UK and Ireland can't just have the US disks.

I asked about the audio and was told it's 7.1 DTS-HD MA on both 2D & 3D Blu-rays.

Shame they had to ditch the commentary. If it's not one thing, it's another. Disney really do hate us, don't they?

Can I get an alternative cover minus the word Assemble? Also I hate Disney too they give us inferior products to the US (no DVD or Digital Copy like the US), but what choice do we have if we want the movie.

Any one know why Disney are releasing this and not Paramount?

Canceled my HMV steelbook pre-order. I'd rather have the documentary.

Is the Sainsbury's version a limited edition release?

I have the 6-disc set ordered from Amazon.co.uk and not sure whether to pay the extra to get the Sainsburys exclusive edition instead. If it's not limited edition, I might see how much it retails for on release day.

Mine's on the way from the USA.

Coming from DVD World USA.

There are many region switchable 3D machines now, we got a smart little Toshiba (there's irony, a TOSHIBA Bluray player) that is multi for DVD and selectable for Bluray, for decent money...
