Thought it was going well but then Morgan just gets caught behind - 74-5 and its last chance saloon with Prior coming in. Trott has been playing really well but no one can stick around

EDIT: 75-5 at tea and still 71 behind - lots of work for Strauss/Flower to try and fix ahead of the next test.

The batsmen have seriously let down the bowlers here. As good as England are they have a terrible record against decent spinners on slow pitches and it has to be addressed immediately otherwise we will get hammered in this series. The problem didn't arise against Aus and India as the spinners they had were either useless or completely out of form.

Prior gone as well now - 87-7 and its quite frankly embarrassing.

EDIT: 88-8

EDIT: Oh, Swann saved on review so still only 88-7

Pakistan have been excellent and kept the pressure on leading to wickets falling regularly. If England thought they could come back after a few months off and hit the ground running they were seriously mistaken. Still this is the first woeful test performance from England for quite some time so I'm not too concerned.

Again the tail shows up the top batsmen. Most of them should be on last chances apart from the Cookie monster, Trott and maybe Bell.

EDIT: is that overblown enough ?

Why maybe Bell? He's been superb for ages and one of the best batsmen in the game. Strauss needs to up his game for sure but as he's the captain that has been in charge for England's considerable rise in Test cricket he deserves the benefit of the doubt. Morgan has to improve and KP must be running out of chances.

Been listening to 5live sport extra coverage of the test match. Commentators were totally ripping into KP saying he probably come out with an excuse for the two dismissals as "that's the way I play" and how unacceptable it was for him to keep using that. I agree with commentators (and this was before Boycott turned up!). Two problems I see with current England form and side; one they are way too hung about being "number 1" - is the pressure or something else getting to them - they need to focus on the game in hand. And secondly players like KP need control their egos and play for the team - if you are coming in with few wickets fallen and you need to control the game and "not play as yourself" for once - stay at the crease for a while at least!

If we can bowl Pakistan out for 15 runs then we can still win this. Very doable.

I have said this before but it doesn't look like it will happen but the odd innings apart he hasn't been the same player off old.

As for today I am not surprised by the batting as we have a mental block when playing a spinner.

He's averaged over 62 since the start of the Ashes which is higher than Trott and over twice what Strauss has done in the same time period (a miserable 30 average in the same time period). Its impossible to just blame one man although KP on these sort of pitches is his own worst enemy.

EDIT: All over - a dismal defeat. When Graeme Swann is virtually the top scorer over both innings, you know its a bad game!
