42-0 at the close and its already looking we'll need a big 2nd innings to avoid a big defeat. Sir Geoffrey Boycott should be quite amusing on the TMS podcast later today!

Can't understand the shot selections especially a slog sweep shot to Ajmal who is no mug

Gah. Ajmal did well, but it's not like each delivery was a hand grenade. England + spin = FAIL.

Finally a wicket - 119-1 with the bowlers toiling away at the moment.

EDIT: 138-2 at lunch with Broad striking again - Younis Khan in at the moment and he is a massive wicket for us. When he gets batting, you're in for a long day on pitches like these.

The last time I saw a ground appear this empty was the MCG on the last day of the last Ashes series

There can only be a couple of hundred people there!

3rd wicket gone with Hafeez gone LBW to Swann - still a long way to go for us though. Crucial pair at the crease now in the captain Misbah Ul-Haq and Younis.

EDIT: Pakistan now in front in the game! - 193-3

Younis looks set for a long innings which is bad news for us. Sir Geoff reckons if we can dismiss them for around 300 we could still be in the game, not sure myself.

Trott gets rid of Younis Khan!

EDIT: Jimmy A strikes with the new ball in its first over - 231-5 and England battling back pretty well.

Massive wicket for Swann right before the close - Misbah gone and its 283-6 now with the tail now exposed.

EDIT: 7 down now as Jimmy A bowls Rehman 3rd ball!

And that's stumps as the Umps call time with that wicket. Really spirited effort from the bowlers today in tough conditions it seems. Hopefully the batsmen can find the same spirit tomorrow as they'll need a Brisbane-like response 2nd time up.

I'm the opposite version of you

We need to finish them off quickly in the morning as we don't want this lead getting to big. The batting worries me though...

Excellent attitude and effort today by the bowlers to keep England in the game.

The lack of scoring has worked against Pakistan today - partially thanks to sustained pressure from our bowling mind. Keep them to 330/340 and then if we can get 400/450 then we're right in with a chance of winning. A lot easier batting against the likes of Xavier Doherty than Saeed Ajmal though

Pakistan 338 all out after some good batting from Akmal - England need to bat LONG with well into tomorrow being a necessity!

EDIT: Strauss gone cheaply as we hit Lunch at 16-1 - we have the two men at the crease that you'd want in this situation in Cook and Trott though.

EDIT: Cook gone - I'm afraid that's us beat in my opinion with still so many runs needed for us to challenge Pakistan

England are only "the world's #1 team" when the pitch favours seam bowling. If it turns at all then they're average.

3 down with KP gone - not even lost a wicket to spin yet. Bell and Trott at the crease as England's batting continues to struggle badly at 25-3. Innings defeat anyone?

KP isn't the man you want on a crease when you are looking for stability.

Still not learnt a thing from 1st innings. Are all the tests at the same ground in Dubai ? I can't imagine them having more than one ?

EDIT: FFS hit the ******* ball

4 down now with Bell LBW to Ajmal - just a calamity batting wise for the top order on this pitch. Seemingly looked at Matt Prior's batting and just decided to ignore the way he played

Still 105 behind with just 6 wickets left

If we avoid a innings defeat it will be a miracle. The batsman need a kick up the backside as it has been shown how to put together an innings but they way they are playing you would think this pitch was a mine field.
