To be fair, the two out batsmen are the two that should be last on the list to be dropped. Having pretty much been the foundations for the batting for the last year or so it's time some of the others took the burden for once.

Trott was unlucky and you have to ask why he didn't appeal as the ball is clearly shown to be missing the stumps, with the captain at the other end it is pretty surprising that they didn't want it looked at again.

I've not seen the Trott dismissal, but I think it would have to be very obviously wrong to make it worth challenging an LBW early in the innings given that it only has to be flicking the stumps to stay with the umpire. They have just been unlucky in this case, but the decision not to challenge was sort of the right one if you know what I mean.

Better to keep them in the bag in case of the rank bad decisions where the batter has nicked it (or not in the case of caught behinds)

The issue was it wasn't anywhere near the stumps so it wasn't in any danger of touching it so for me it was a referral that they should have used no matter if it was so early in the innings.

I've not seen it, but the text commentary seemed to suggest Strauss saying no to Trott. It's all well and good trying to keep your referrals in hand but they're better off saving one of the front line batsman early on than, say, saving Monty with nine down because you've not used them all up!

Just when he was looking good KP goes to a left arm spinner yet again and he wasn't happy, it was just hitting the top of the stumps by the bails but he has to go.

The ball hit the stumps by 2.2 millimetres, Flower is shaking is head as well but KP did play all around it yet again.

KP out AGAIN to left arm spin LBW

I like the referral system even more in this series. I like how the umpire's call has been expanded it seems and players are starting to realise that its not there to overturn marginal calls. Its there to stop those inside edge/given out LBW due to an error from the umpire.

Bell goes now, a bit unlucky as the keeper missed it but it rebounded back onto the stumps and Bell was a inch or so out of his crease.

What an amazing days cricket, who said test cricket was boring. There was something happening almost every ball and the number of lbw's given is now a record for a three match series and we are not yet half way through. It is almost a surprise when a wicket falls and it isn't a lbw.

Good to see Strauss stick it out and we are going to need him a and Broad if we can extend that lead.

DAY 2.

Jimmy gets knocked over within a few balls of the resumption of play. Now it's Strauss and Broad v. a relentless onslaught of spin... 117-7.

133-9. Strauss stumped on 56 as he goes for a big shot. Only Monty to come now...

Swann going for his shots and getting boundaries. Considering the low-scoring nature of this game, these are valuable runs.... and then Swann clops it straight to Rehman. England have been bowled out for 141 and lead by 42.

These pitches were supposed to produce bore draws. This game could be over by lunch tomorrow

And Monty. 30-2. Six wickets already in two hours of play. Lunch beckons.
