You make some fair points but why do you have to be such an arse about it? Newsflash: Football fans have opinions and they aren't idiots that need to be spoken to like children just because they differ from yours.
Always sad to see United fans turning on each other ...

Anyway ....

Can't say I've overly bothered by the result as it was what I expected. Somebody up there really didn't want us to win the cup this year. City & Liverpool away in the first two rounds It carried into yesterday too with that shot from Valencia that beat Reina all ends up but it wasn't to be. A couple of minutes later and Liverpool are ahead. Cruel game.

There is no other plausible explanation for Kuyt scoring against us again.

Does anyone really think De Gea is good enough to be a United number one? I must admit to be pretty unconvinced by him up to this point...sure, he's made some decent saves but he totally fails to impose himself in his area and makes far too many mistakes. Yesterday he was diabolical...John O'shea would have better between the sticks for us!!! I don't dislike the guy, I just don't think he is anywhere near good enough for one of the world's best teams!

Good shot stopper, but doesn't command his box. I'd chuck Ł5 mill at Swansea for vorm anyday of the week.

They got a real diamond there.

Juventus fans said the same things about a 30 year-old Van der Sar.

He didnt do too well stopping Kuyt's strike. Its early granted, but I would wager he'll be another flop to add to Ferguson's goalkeeper list.

I want to give De Gea a chance but when the rest of the team is so shoddy, it's not really in our gift at the moment.

Fix the midfield, buy a decent midfielder and then play De Gea every week. The problem we have at the moment is that the team is not good enough to cover for his mistakes.

Woah, woah, calm down! After every negative result this season there has been countless, one or two line posts criticising every element of the club and forgetting the success we've had over the last few years. I see nothing wrong with airing my opinion and I'm sure my views are shared by many United fans who don't post so frequently on this thread. I also have absolutely no doubt that many disagree - I genuinely couldn't care less, I'm far from an oracle on any topic, let alone United.

As for speaking to people like children, I can't agree - I doubt MICON would feel at all patronised by me, he'll brush off my comments and move on, as he should, his views are as relevant as mine, I just don't happen to agree with the majority but that wouldn't mean they are necessarily wrong. However, I'd love to see people give more detail on what we should do to remedy the team and the club, especially given the position with the Glazers - for example, how boycotting the club would help. I don't think it would but again, happy to be shown the error of my ways.

I will apologise for the part quoted in my reply to barthez - that was aimed squarely at Keane and not him at all, reading back it looks rude. Keane was a great player but I struggled to have any time at all for him since he left sporting a massive chip on his shoulder. He actually isn't a fool and does talk some sense - but, very much like Souness, his inability to build relationships with his colleagues and his inner demons means he can often come across like a complete prat.

Have to agree, I was disappointed yesterday but only because it was Liverpool and it genuinely could have gone either way, no team were clearly the better side. I love this myth among rival fans that we get favourable draws - we get our fair share of absolute shockers. In the treble year, didn't we play a PL in every round of the competition? +

I still think de gea is a good gk, but the fact is it was a step up when he moved to manu, and players take time to settle, gk's don't have the luxury of getting away with a few mistakes and dodgy games. That said lingergaard has been better this season.

Like others have said he just doesn't look like he's strong enough to be able to hack the Premiership. He doesn't command his area and always looks like he's going to be susceptible at set-pieces. He might have looked okay in the Spanish league but Stoke on a Tuesday night? Hmmm ...

According to Talk Sport this morning the last time we were out of all the competitions by this time was 1981. That's 31 years ago.

They were not talking about a competition you go into if you fail on the main one, as that did not happen then.

The one sticking point to that statistic is that we are not out of everything

Yes, De Gea was the cheapest option available, wasn't he. I think he needs to be given a fair crack of the whip. He is a decent shot stopper, and he can bulk up. But to keep chopping and changing him all the time must knock his confidence a lot.
The injuries in the defence have been telling too, as not having Vidic available means that we are reliant on Ferdinand staying fit, Jones seems to be being played everywhere at the moment, the two full back spots seem to be suffering too. Evra has been patchy at times, and the da Silvas appear to be made of glass.
