[Blu-ray] The Coen Brothers Collection (5 films) £13.50 at Zavvi with code!
Yes that's right - five films of (mostly) cinematic brilliance on blue for a mere three quid each!
The Coen Brothers Collection Blu-ray
- A Serious Man
- The Big Lebowski
- Barton Fink
- Burn After Reading
- Intolerable Cruelty

Seriously tempted as I've been meaning to pick up Lebowski cheap anyway (held off buying it due to the DNR).
Never seen Burn After Reading, Intolerable Cruelty or A Serious Man (never even heard of this one?). Any good?

A Serious Man is superb, easily among their best. I have it already and it is a good disk.

Ooh, tempted even more now.
Still think the DVD collection was a bit more definitive: Blood Simple, Lebowski, Barton Fink, Hudsucker and another one I think... (possibly Raising Arizona)

It's the old version of Lebowski isn't it?

Isn't there only one BD of TBL (the one with the DNR)? The only half-way decent HD release so far has been the HD-DVD.

Yeah, I think Lou was thinking back to the DVDs. That box set had the older, and quite terrible, release of Lebowski.

Personally I'd say those 3 are "middling" efforts from the Coens. Most disappointing of that lot was A Serious Man as after all the positive reviews we found it just a little bit drab, and it didn't really do anything for us. Intolerable Cruelty exceeded our low expectations but I can appreciate why some reviews were scathing. Best of the 3 was Burn After Reading but it too stumbled in places. To put it into context I love Hudsucker Proxy so you can take that as a measure of my taste in films!
However for £3 a pop it may well be worth a gamble if you've not seen them before!

If you're looking for an opinion - worst Coens films for me (Ladykillers is the only one I've not seen yet). Thought they were all poor sadly (worser than Blood Simple and Hudsucker)
Intolerable Cruelty was a pedestrian romcom at best (with an annoying Clooney), A Serious Man was A Seriously Boring Filum (and yes I am clever and understand all about Schreodinger and his cat), and Burn After Reading was crap in large part becuase of Brad Pitt being 'uglified' (see: bad hair dye) and mugging for the camera.

The Ladykillers is probably my least favourite too. Although, I'm not keen on Hudsucker either...
No Country was solid, but massively overrated.
I'm gonna pass I think, I'll just get Lebowski when it hits the fiver mark. Worth noting though that this box set is the only way to own Barton Fink on blu-ray.

Its also £15.19 at Play.
Barton Fink is available in Germany stand-alone. My local Media-Markt has it for 9.99 Euro's (about £8.40).

As much as I love The Coen Brothers I didn't rate Intolerable Cruelty.

Nah I'm OK with it too. It's not a Coen classic, but still 10x more interesting than most films out there
