Given that we now favour one up front plus VDV I can’t see us signing a replacement though it does sound as though he will leave. Would like to see us start negotiations on a permanent deal for Adebayor as better sides are likely to be interested…

This is the sort of thing that frustrates me, an inability to interpret even simple stats. On the face of it that statement implies that Armstrong is a better striker, and he may be, but people forget two very important things when they criticise Pav (as they did with Bent).

Firstly goals/game isn't a bad stat but when you've got players that score a high number of goals with very little game time using goals/game is misleading. If a player scored a goal every 180 mins but only played 18 mins a game it would be a goal every 10 games where as a player that scored every 5 games might seem twice as good but that's 450mins

Secondly strikers do better when they have a run of games and the pressures off, so we should expect players who have that advantage to have a higher goals per minute ratio.

If Pav had the strike rate of Crouch, or even Defoe I could understand doubts but it's not even doubts, it's unfounded certainty. I'm not saying Pav is better than Adebayor, all I've ever said is that he should be given a fair crack when other players have had second, third chances to prove themselves why not give him at least one? 10 games of premiership footie in a row, say. If we stay in the cups, and put out a decent team, then why not start him or him and Defoe in every game? Certainly our mistake last season was not resting VDV when he seemed to be a shadow of a player.

The back page of the Evening Standard tonight was all about Adebayor claiming he wants to stay and for Levy and City to thrash out a deal. Pinch of salt taken, esp. given his salary at City, for which the paper could only speculate on the terms of the loan deal.

But there were quotes from Ade himself, saying things like Harry has 'rescued' him and that he feels at home again, etc.

Hmm...

EDIT - here: http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standa...el-adebayor.do

Well the solution he apparently craves is a simple one. He manages to scrape by for the next few years on £3.5m pa instead of £8.8m.

He certainly seems to be enjoying himself but I suppose we'll find out what's really important to him at the end of the season.

Edit - at the end of this season he will already have pocketed some £26m just from his City contract.

We don't look very creative without VDV and Modric, Parker is trying his best but it's not really his role. Sandro is close to getting sent off unfortunately.

What a match, there could have been 5 goals in the last 10 minutes! Another fantastic 3 points particularly at a tricky ground with two of our best unavailable, the defence was shakier than usual but I don't mind right now

Just confirms that it is impossible to challenge the Sky4 without spending fantasy money.

Biggest result of the season other than the Pool game for me. Shaky first half and lucky to be level but should have been dead and buried with at least 20 mins to go with the number of chances we created.

Winning a tricky away game like WBA without our two most creative players is a great sign!

given that we drew there last season this was massive. We're now 7pts up on last season while Arsenal are 3pts up. We're doing well but that might no be enough. We've certainly got to win the next two, it was 6 pts last season and with some tricky fixtures comming up for teams around us this would be a great chance for some breathing space.

Only saw MOTD but we looked sloppy at the back, kaboul didn't pick their scorer up and king wasn't in the best position either. JD and EA seem to link up well and I'd rather two up front than 1, at least at home. Perhaps Harry can rest VDV next week?

Talking of which, I know he's scored 4 this week but how many has Adebayor missed? Terrible penalty and he only just did enough to put the follow up in. Still they all count I suppose.

As I suspected a few weeks back, the old Lennon is back. Reports of the game suggest that he was fantastic this week, MOTM for many. Lets hope it's not a blip

Was away on hols but delighted to see we got 3 points at WBA. Exactly the type of game we usually draw or get turned over. Bolton at home next so hopefully a win. Looking at Chelsea's fixtures they might not win any before they play us just before xmas.

We just need to keep chipping away getting points and hopefully Chelsea and Arsenal will continue to stutter. It will definitely be close at the end as we will have a blip at some point.

No doubt that blip will come when we lose Ledders and or Scott Parker, easily our two most impressive players this season imo.

Just a reminder that we are playing in the Europa League tonight rather than the usual Thursday evening. A win wouldn't guarantee that we would be through but it would make life easier - I'd imagine Gallas, Pienaar and Defoe will be likely to start.

Great, thanks for the reminder. I always prefer to actively avoid these games rather than just miss them by chance.

I personally find it quite interesting to see rare outings for our reserves and youths. We seem quite thin on the ground at the moment anyway so expect Kane, Livermore, Townsend etc to start. Hoping to form a better view of Falque too.

I'm still missing the point with Falque, he doesn't look good enough to make it in the first team squad but he isn't young enough to be thought of as a long term prospect IMO.

Hopefully Walker is given a rest, we can't afford to burn him out even though it looks like he has endless energy!

Harry has said he’d rest all 11 who played if he could but Defoe likely to play as Pav injured, good thing IMO as he really needs a run of games. Is Corluka still lurking around? Otherwise will be another yoof at RB.
