Next 8 Fixtures
Away Blackburn
Home QPR
Away Fulham
Home Aston Villa
Away West Brom
Home Bolton
Away Stoke City
Home Sunderland
Would be very happy with 16 points +.

QPR weren't in the league last season, so if you were to count them, the reference result should be against Blackpool - as they won the Championship prior to their season in the Premiership also. That match was a draw. LY we picked up 15 points from those 8 games. Not that I'd advocating getting too fixated on this years results vs last years but I do like stats!
What cost us fourth place LY was our league form after beating AC Milan away:
Away Blackpool 3-1 0pts
Away Wolves 3-3 1pt
Home West Ham 0-0 1pt
Away Wigan 0-0 1pt
Home Stoke 3-2 3pts
Home Arsenal 3-3 1pt
Home West Brom 2-2 1pt
Away Chelsea 2-1 0pts
Home Blackpool 1-1 1pt
Away Man City 2-1 0pts
9pts from 10 matches.

Looks like a good run of games and opportunity to get some decent points but worried about our cb situation.
No King, Dawson, Gallas or Corluka/Huddlestone who could play there at a push leaves us pretty vulnerable.
Kaboul is noticably better when playing alongside the likes of King but with Bassong beside him i'm a bit worried.
Think we could be involved in some shootouts.

The absence of Gallas is a big loss as he was a real stable presence last season when King was out. The likes of Dawson and Kaboul play so much better with established quality centre backs keeping them in line almost.

that's a lot of centre backs out, I wonder how Khumalo is getting along? We have Caulker as well out on loan.
I suppose one of the yoofs will be covering Kaboul & Bassong. Townsend could probably fill in but we really are bare bones arent' we?

I think I've heard that Walker has played CB before, although that doesn't really fill me with confidence, so I'd much rather we recall Khumalo if need be if that's a possibility in his contract.

Interesting lineup! Livermore at CB, Defoe starts as does Walker plus Carroll gets another game. I'm hoping Gio has a good game and that Lennon remembers how to play again.

Woof! What a goal!
We've been crap otherwise apart from Sandro who seems to have a supernatural ability to get a challenge in!

Another relatively dire match but that should go a long way to getting through to the knockout stages.

Yep, I could usually watch Spurs any time but these EL are getting quite dull to watch the whole 90 mins for. Mind you, I'm slightly hungover (yep, even still by the evening of the day after the night before!) so not really in the mood.
A good win though against a better quality opposition.

As frustrating as it was to watch last night there are plenty of positives to take out of the game:
- Carroll looks like an excellent prospect.
- A good 70 mins for Sandro. He continues to impress me with his constant ability to break up play.
- A Russian audience for Pavs freekick thunderbolt should help his value if we offload him back to his homeland in Jan (although I would prefer us to keep him)
- Good for Bassong and Kaboul to get a bit more gametime together and a handy run out for Livermore at CB if we need him.
- Walker continues his rapid development. He's going to become a cracking player.
All in all, happy with that. Looking forward to seeing more of Carroll and Townsend in the Europa. May not be an ideal tournament for us to be involved in but its an ideal stage for the youngsters to develop.

again, I saw it differently. Thought Sandro and Carroll had some good touches but the game largely passed them by-Parker and Hudd well ahead of both for the first team imo.
Bassong and Livermore were both shaky, Rose slightly better but not ready for the first team on that evidence. Disappointed with the movement and touch of Defoe, not his night at all. Gomes as erratic as usual, Lennon not consistent in his delivery but was clearly being asked to play slightly different role to normal
Only player who played well as such was Walker who does indeed look the part. Has a good crack at being England RB imo.

I am skill. Shame the goons keep winning at the moment though our side is very well balanced with a good degree of depth-I think we are slight favourites for the fourth spot.

I don't know what Parker was doing for their goal. He went to a player that was already marked and the player he left was free to bury it
Sandro on for VDV 2nd half, please Harry

Thanks. No, I still want Sandro on for VDV. God knows why he's bringing Rose on now

Plenty of chances but no third. Starting to feel uneasily familiar.

We were crying out for Sandro there, nothing in midfield
