I get the impression that Mancini is very frustrated at the fact that Nasri has not yet been signed, so I'm not sure that we'd be waiting for arbitrary dates like suspensions before completing the transfer. Wenger and Arsenal are probably playing hardball (as is their right) but I think that that is a far more likely transfer than Sneijder.

Having said that, he Mancini could be selling everybody a dummy and maybe it was about Sneijder all along! I expect we'll get an additional playmaker by the end of August.

I'd be happy to let Tevez stay, he'd be a useful asset to have on the bench - we don't need the money because his wages don't count for the fair play rules.

As for being a tin pot club, wasn't it the 50th anniversary of Spurs last league title last season?

Well Rob, I can't argue with you there. Also, let us not forget than in those 50 years Manchester City has been promoted six times. Once in successive seasons. Well, we just can't compete with that sort of glory.

Taking nothing for granted, especially as it's the first game of the season.
I'd expect us to keep it tight at the back, with a bit of invention of front. I still expect us to win, but I don't think it's going to be a cricket score type of result.

Swansea are the best out of the teams promoted IMO. I have a feeling there's going to be quite a few goals at both ends this evening... (famous last words)

I know Micah Richards has always been of the sturdier build but has he bothered with pre-season?! He looks like he should be down the road playing loosehead prop for Sale Sharks.

I thought it was just Spurs and Everton not starting their seasons until next week

I would agree. The bitter and resentful feeling emanates from the non-City fans. 5 years ago the Man City threads on here never attracted such a perturbed, caustic bunch, now we have people climbing over themselves to have a pop on a daily basis.

He's filled that Tevez-shaped hole nicely.

Tevez shaped? I never realised that merchandising had branched out that far

Carlos who?

That was a hell of a debut from Aguero and all in 30 minutes as well

So many positives from that match. I thought that De Jong and Barry were tidy in the middle and Kompany and Lescott were calm and assured in defence.

David Silva was superb and even scored from inside the box (not his strong point last season). Dzeko looked fantastic as well, a well taken goal and he looks fully integrated into the attack now - very happy to have him as a first choice this season.

If you think back to last season, Silva took a good few months to get going and it was nearly Christmas before Yaya was rumbling through on goal. Tonight both players looked up for it from very early on and we've hit the ground running nicely. Hopefully the fact that the team was built last season will pay dividends over the opening months of this season.

Swansea look a half decent team, but the fact that their keeper was one of the best players on the pitch and they still lost 4-0 says a lot, although I'm sure that they'll get some good results against middle and lower teams.

Aguerro look's very good, enjoy him while he's there, which won't be long at all imo.
