How are these compared to the previous versions? The box looks so much smaller in size when I saw it in HMV (for £60).

the discs look to be dual layer and single sided, rather than dual sided.
So in my book's that's an improvement straight away.

The last couple of seasons were always dual layered (made the seasons 3 cases wide rather than 6) rather than going from dual sided then reissued as dual layered.

The new packaging is more compact. Each season comes in a standard sized DVD case now (but with flaps to hold 4 discs)
As far as it goes in the UK, this is the DVD release we should have got all along! Each episode is extended, a couple of the episodes have got whole new scenes which were chopped out from the broadcast version. 9 gag reels, which are the funniest I have ever seen of any TV show ever, and the documentary on the whole production process is among the new special features which were left off the original releases which were on the R1 DVDs. This is a ridiculously good price and any Friends fan should not think twice about repurchasing a superior version of the series!

Thanks, I was looking for some info on the new set because I knew the R1 boxsets included the extended versions but wasn't sure about the UK
Saves me importing from amazon.com

Are Amazon likely to use Home Delivery couriers for this? Not had great experience of them be averse to dumping things outside the front door in all weathers!!

They don't, but drop them an e-mail anyway, as some people have been given refunds since they stopped doing it officially.
Not for this set specifically, but just things in general.
Could I BEEEE any more vague?!

Avoided bothering with a Friends boxset for ages because they're forever being repeated on telly anyway, but now that we've got all the extras we shouldv'e had originally this is an amazing bargain!
Thanks OP!

I have tried a few times anyway and got rejected each time. The last time was buying Red Cliff for £16.98 and it went to £9.98 after just a couple of weeks only yesterday.
